The copy I received is 2015 copyright

Very interesting, informative, and useful projects. The copy I received is 2015 copyright. May that be a bit backdated?

Anxiously waiting for sequel

KM4YEC, as a Board Member of a local Amateur Radio Club who was trying to kickstart a Builders Group I searched for a text that I could use as foundation for starting this effort. Searching previous reviews for satisfaction with the projects offered and completeness of code and easy to understand instructions, I choose this book. Months later when I look on the tables where we are building, there are a pile of these marked up books. What is really great for us, is that this author has many offshoots of projects in this book and similar projects that we are using that are available outside of his book and are evolving every day, just as a Group, we are paralleling in our evolution. It is a good thing to be able to follow projects that evolve with the same software code author, while at the same time compare with the efforts of others, and then incorporate the best into our projects. Its great to have a text that is just begging for a Part 2.

REALLY good resource!

If you've read any other Arduino books, you're all too familiar with the lecture-style manner in which they are written: each coding trick gets its own chapter, and each successive chapter builds on the previous ones. To get anywhere, you have to read hundreds of pages, and build projects that may not be relevant for what you want to ultimately make. Not here! This book dives right into purpose-built projects, and teaches relevant programming and hardware skills along the way. You can use the book two ways: "easy mode," where you skip over the programming explanations and hardware theory, or "advanced mode," where you learn a lot about coding and hardware design. If you read the optional parts, you'll become surprisingly competent at coding, and you'll be able to easily hack and modify these projects to truly make them your own.I own many, many books on Arduinos and ham radio, and this book is hands-down my favorite in both categories.

Learn as you build really useful Amateur Radio Projects

As an “older” amateur radio operator I’m trying to keep current with technology, and I’ve been playing around with simple Arduino projects for a short time. I’m disappointed in some of the Arduino how-to books because most of them just say, “get these parts, build this, download this program and it should work.THIS book, however takes a measured approach that starts you off with the basics of Arduino and actually teaches you the theory behind how everything goes together and how it all works. It shows you how choices were made and how you might choose something different to better suit your needs.I am working my way through the projects, as each one leads to the other, and you learn as you go.If you want to learn HOW to use Arduino with ham radio projects, then this is the book to walk you through it. What I’ve learned from this book has given me confidence to try some other Arduino projects that are not necessarily amateur radio related.

A useful book of projects for amateur radio using the arduino

Like most arduino books, this one also starts with an introductory chapter that explains the arduino and its variations as well as downloading and setting up the programming software. Another chapter covers beginning programming. From there the books goes into the projects starting with a LCD shield. Other basic projects are also covered as needed for integration into more advanced projects. An example of projects are a CW layer, CW decoder, station timer, rotate controller, directional watt and SWR meter, simple frequency counter and a portable solar power source. All in all it is a book of ideas with good instructions as well as the thinking that goes behind the design of the project. It is good source material to use and branch out into your own projects.

Where Are the Errors?

While some of the projects seem very interesting, the first thing I did was go to the "Errata" webpage as explained in the preface. www.mhprofessional.com/arduinohamradio I couldn't find any errata. Their own website: www.arduinoforhamradio.com for discussion of projects turns up a blank "U.S. Microwave" page. I understand books such as this are published on a very short time line but they need then to have a recourse for noting errors. In the first project, LCD Shield, the listing gives pinouts as "LiquidCrystal lcd(12, 11, 5, 4, 3, 2);". Yet the recommended downloadable program lists "LiquidCrystal lcd(12, 11, 7, 6, 5, 4);". I know I can easily change this but I shouldn't have errors like this from the start.... Or I should at least be able to find a listing of these errors. I fear I will have to do a lot of unnecessary debugging. In the Morse Decoder I see a digitalWrite(LED,1) but never a digitalWrite(LED,0). I thought the LED was supposed to flash with the incoming audio.I will certainly change my review if I can get pointed in the right direction toward noted errors.

Very detailed and informative.

Very detailed and well written. I have successfully built the universal panel meter and intend to build more of the projects in this book. The link to the forum listed in this book seems to be broken, but the source code for the projects can be found if you go to the "McGraw Hill Professional" web site and search on "Arduino Projects for Amateur Radio". PS, If you build the panel meter, make sure the unit is powered up before you try to measure a voltage with it and make sure the voltage being measured is not too far beyond the range of the meter. Anyone want to buy a fried Arduino board?

Amateur Radio Projects

This is a great book for building your own Amateur Radio projects. It also has some interesting analysis of other kits as well.

No support, no website, no downloads available.

I was full of high hopes for this book. I took an interest in a couple of the projects but when I came to check for errata and downloads, I was directed to a website that has not been available for at least five years. The listings in the book are on a grey background, so OCR would be quite difficult too. So two stars for the written material and none for the backup. The book is largely useless without it.

An excellent Amateur radio Arduino book.

I have gone through a few ham radio based Arduino books and this one is up there at the top of the list.It doesn't immediately assume that you're completely au-fait with the arduino but guides you into it and it's uses for ham radio and a nice, measured pace. The projects are quite varied: these include a DDS vfo, a station timer, an SWR meter, CW keyboard, morse decoder and others. The book is nicely presented with the normal on line support for code downloads etc.A good addition to your Arduino projects library if you're into amateur radio

No File Download Site that I could See

A good set of projects; however, the site for downloading files from the internet appears to be broken.

Four Stars

A good read, and enabled me to get further understanding of how to use Arduino

good book but out of date now.

The projects in this book have been done more recently with the latest thinking and the projects in this book feel out of date.
