Nova Max Plus Glucose Meter

I am a health coach and 6 months ago started a ketogenic diet. I needed to test my ketones and glucose to track my progress and the Nova Max Plus was the ticket to do this. The meter gives you data 99% of the time, it is economical, and easy to use. Simple instructions and the guide has all you need to know in it. I was completely new to blood testing and after 1-2 weeks I was very good and comfortable with it. Having both glucose and ketone testing features is the way to go. The battery life is still going and I have few if any failures of data, and usually it is because of the strips. The Nova Max strips I review as well and they are just as good as the meter. No brainer here, buy it.

Been using this for 3 months now and love it! It is easy to use and keeps a record of all results with a date and time.

I purchased these meter in order to monitor my ketogenic diet as part of my ultramarathon training (I'm not a diabetic). I wanted a device which would check both glucose and serum ketones. I started getting unusually high fasting glucose values (140-150s, which is technically diabetic). I was shocked to find this. I eventually purchased a second meter (Contour Next EZ) based on reviews comparing glucometer accuracy. The Nova Max glucometer was reading consistently 30-40 points high (even on control solutions). At first, I was worried that I was developing physiologic insulin resistance on my ketogenic diet, but my sugars by venipuncture were always normal. I have no way to verify the accuracy of the serum ketone measurements, but I now am worried that they too are not very reliable. This is well outside of current guidelines for glucometer accuracy.

This is basically a good meter, certainly the price is right. The one problem I had was that the directions for putting the lancet tool together were not clear, so I couldn't use it as an automatic thing--I just have to jab myself with the needle. Not really a big deal, but it would be easier if the directions were clearer and it would work automatically.

This meter is very unreliable.I got it specifically to use it for ketone testing and used the glucose strips that came with it. Same drop of blood could be 10-12 points off!! Often 15 points off from our other monitor that my husband uses. Not sure I can trust the accuracy when the numbers are so far off with the exact same drop of blood! Glucose control solution has a pretty large range of normal which also seems to make this discrepancy a problem.

I'm on ketogenic diet. Measures ketones. I'm quite satisfied!
