The Amtek Scraminal automatically emits an audible sound to deter pets from coming close to off-limit areas or furniture.

Q: Is 3' the short distance it can be programmed to?

The customer doesn't program the Scraminal. I have four placed around the living room to cover any situation my cats approach. The Scraminal covers about a 40 degree imaginary angle, up to a distance of 8 ti 12 feet. Your question about 3 feet is a sure fire alarm distance. I can't imagine any situation where I would want to 'program' the Scraminal. I just purchase more Scraminals as I think I need to train my cats to keep out. They get the idea right away, but will occasionally test and trespass. If you want to use the Scraminal in a shorter alarm distance, just move the Scraminal further away from where the animal will approach. It will work on mice or guinea pigs, dogs or cats. My daughter trained her pit bulls to not jump on the windows by positioning Scraminals on the window moldiing with a tack. A perfect way to train my animals...and they are not harmed in any way.

They work separately. But they will work together if you have them covering the same area.
