Both exam prep study guides were excellent resources to prepare for the ASP and CSP exams with the broad spectrum of topics that matched up fairly well to the exam questions. The practice test was very helpful with mixing the question subject areas randomly just like the exam. In addition, the answers section went beyond just providing the answer to the questions; it explained how to get to the correct answer. The one area for improvement on both guides is that the explanations of how to get to the answers provided in the answers section would have been helpful to provide during the various math sections prior to the practice test as examples. This would have eliminated some flipping back and forth in the guide to verify your knowledge as you are studying.

I just passed my ASP exam, and this book was the best study resource I used. Covers all the topics on the exam, and the practice test at the end resembles what the actual is exam is like. Some other study guides I used included the flash cards by Mometrix, the BCSP self-assessment test, and the ASP Pocket Prep app (I purchased the full version). Out off all these sources this book was definitely the best. The flashcards had a lot of good information, and was very similar to the content of the book. My knock on the flashcards were they had extremely long explanations, and did not really function as quick and easily summarized flash cards. The ASP Pocket Prep App was somewhere around $22-25 and had 400 practices questions that were very close to what you see on the test, and gives you good explanations on the question's correct answers. The BCSP self-assessment is not a bad tool but it is the same 100 questions, and does not give in-depth explanations on any of the answers. I wasn't extremely confident when purchasing the exam so I went with the exam bundle package, that includes 2 test attempts and the self assessment. If you do not purchase that bundle I would definitely recommend the Pocket Prep App over the BCSP online assessment. I did not attend any prep courses before the exam, and my professional experience is just over 2 years and has mostly focused in environmental regulations. My undergrad was in OHS, but it has also been about 3 yrs since I have complete that. I am currently in my first class for a MS in OSH/Envr Mng and what I have learned from that course has definitely help in preparing for the ASP. As far as studying directly for the ASP I probably spent 50ish hours in the week leading up to my exam, and it is probably not something I would recommend. For future certifications I will definitely give myself a month to prep to help reduce stress/anxiety heading into the exam. Hope this was helpful!

If you have experience in the HSE profession and want to prepare for the test, this guide is great review tool to help you get ready for the exam. This book will not replace experience or education, but it will help you to refresh your skills and get into the exam mindset. I primarily used this guide and passed my exam on the first attempt. Total preparation time for me was about 3 months. I found the math examples to be very helpful. I took the practice exam more than one time, once to benchmark myself, a second time after working through the guide. This helped me to really focus on areas where I tested weak. At some points the explanations in the book seemed somewhat vague/brief, but this helped me understand areas where I needed to do more work. The test taking strategies and techniques were very very helpful. I really did not notice or was not bothered by editing items.

It gives a thorough explanation of the problems given in an easy to understand way. I love the straightforwardness of the book and especially the break down of the math portion which is my greatest struggle. I have yet to take the ASP so I'm excited with how this book can help.

I been enjoying the study guide a lot and have used some of the practices at work with great success, especially in creating proposals for implementation of safety equipment. I did however found the math portion of the study guide to be a bit lacking. I would like a more step by step process on how you reach certain answers. I would also like a possible practice problem apart from the ones at the end of the book. So I can take on the practice exam in one go and also time myself on it. I did enjoy the approach to accident prevention chapter a lot. Not only was it enjoyable to read but I appreciated the different schools of thoughts on how to approach safety. The theory portions on the study guide became my favorite aspect of the guide. It shed some light as to why certain ideas work and how to approach different problems you may come across at your own work place. Overall, this is a great product.

This book helped me study for and take the ASP examination, which I passed on my first attempt. I started studying in earnest about 3 months before I took the examination. I consider the technical content of this book was useful, as were the tips on exam-taking and anxiety reduction. I found the practice examination particularly useful, and the explanations provided for correct and incorrect choices were valuable. Of note, I am a full-time industrial safety officer with a radiation protection and environmental compliance background; I found that this book augmented my working knowledge to a degree that was definitely worth the price of its purchase.

I really like this book. It’s concise and gets to the point. Years ago, I had bought other test prep materials, and it had a lot of pointless stuff. I like the concise answers and easy-to-understand explanations to the test questions. I also like the reading material. It really just got to the point of what I needed to know exactly.
