For many years I used the old-style Susan Bates or Boye skinny aluminum hooks and was very satisfied. But as I got a little older I decided I should try something a little more ergonomic so I got one of these Soft Touch hooks and loved it so much I got them all! They're silky smooth as they move through the yarn and the short shaft suits me well. I hold my hook like a pencil and don't know if that makes any difference. I also find that they are less likely to split the yarn as I'm crocheting. They are a little pricey, but are so worth it, and buying them one at a time I could spread the cost over time.
