Fun and Exciting Project
Very affordable, fun activity! The crystals started growing within hours. You definitely have to follow the directions and times to a T to make sure they grow correctly. Our pure white one, small one grew the best. I am tempted to buy another kit and figure out what exactly causes better crystal formations...is it the "coloring seeds" and their shape/size?...Some of the seeds are mere granules and others are bigger, similar to a tiny rock. Maybe just putting 1 larger "color seed" is better for the smaller container?...The varying sizes of the coloring seeds also make it a little difficult to accurately measure "one scoop"...but overall definitely a fun experiment and better than watching plants grow! lol...younger kids definitely need some help as well.

This set is AWESOME! I highly recommend it
This set is AWESOME! I highly recommend it! I purchased it to grow crystals in the office as a fun experiment to keep me entertained during busy season and it did not disappoint. You need to be sure to follow the instructions carefully. I made a fatal error on my first attempt and did not wait the full 30 minutes before I added the crystal seeding and nothing ended up growing. On the subsequent attempts I followed the instructions to a T and was able to grow beautiful crystals. I even ordered a second set because the results were astounding. The steps are simple enough I was able to grow these in my office with ease. All you need is boiling water and the rest is provided in the kit. The first step is to dissolve the crystal mixture (it looks almost like sugar) into hot water. Next, you have to let it sit for 15 minutes, and then transfer it into a clear plastic container where the crystal will grow. WAIT ANOTHER 30 MINUTES after the water is transferred. This step is crucial otherwise the crystals will not grow. Once you have waited the allotted time you drop in the crystal seeds. They provide blue, red, and white crystals so you can mix and match them to create different colored crystals. It seems that each type of crystal seed grows a different shape of crystal. I noticed that the red crystal seeds will grow more block-like crystals whereas the blue seeds will create more sharp/pointy crystals that flower out. Blue and red will create a crystal that looks like a combination between the two - it flowers out but is more block-like. Keep this in mind when you choose the colors you make. You will start seeing growth overnight. Its amazing to watch the progress. On the instructions it says it takes 4-7 days before the crystals are fully grown. I would keep an eye on them and drain the water when the crystal is about to emerge from the water. If you leave it too long the crystal is exposed to the air it will form "snow-like" growths on the top (which I think are ugly). The rate of growth will be affected by the temperature of the room as well as the size of the crystal you are growing. The crystals grow well in warmer temperatures. The small crystals will finish growing faster than the large ones. Each bag of crystal mixture can either make 1 large one, 2 medium sized one, or 4 small ones. The kit allows you to grow 1 large crystal, 2 medium crystals, and 4 small crystals simultaneously because that is the amount of containers they provide. If you want to grow 3 large ones you can grow them one at a time because they only provide one large container. I think the large crystals are the coolest. All in all this is an amazing kit. Everyone in the office is jealous and now they want to grow their own crystals too. 5 stars!!! I want to make ALL the crystals!

Fantastic if you used distilled water
The crystals came out fantastic when we boiled distilled water rather than tap water. For those getting weird formations, you may have sediment or other things in your water that is messing it up. Also, depending on the temperature and humidity in your home, the time it takes for full formation may vary. The first formations took less time than subsequent ones because it was warmer and had less humidity. This was a super fun, super easy, way to teach my daughter about crystals and how they form. We'd use a flashlight (being careful not to disturb the solution) and check them out as they were growing. She was particularly interested in the little crystal formations as they crawled up the side of the container like they had a mind of their own. Would definitely buy again.

4M 7 Crystal Growing Science Experimental Kit with Display Cases
Daughter loved working with these. The crystals didn't grow as much as I thought they would but that could have been user error. House vibration disturbing them too much. Still fun to see them growing as much as they did.

Mixed results
Mixed results, some grew nicely and some didn't. There was not enough color dye minerals provided and some of the results may have been affected by the lack of materials. The finished crystals were extremely fragile and can not be handled without breaking. The rinse process actually causes damage to the finished product. This experiment is basically making salt crystals, so they are not very hard and can melt in running water. The plastic display cases did not snap together, the lids smaller than the bases. You must wear rubber gloves, not provided, or you will end up with dye all over you. Not recommended for young kids. Best to lay out a full sheet of cardboard to protect your work space and do this experiment in a basement or garage where a spill won't damage your interior flooring. Boiling water and using dye are part of this experiment so it is more for teenage or adult users. It was kind of interesting, but the final product is too fragile for practical display and long term keeping. Not sure about the toxicity, but it does say it contains chemical salts used in commercial fertilizers. Could be skin sensitivity concerns for some.

It actually worked! Fun!
I bought this for my daughter at Christmas and I was a bit overwhelmed reading the instructions, but if you follow them to a T, you'll end up with crystals that look just like the ones on the box! She (5 years old) helped me mix but I did most of the work as you have to deal with boiling water and not over handle it once it's mixed. We did just one to see how it would go, and we mixed the red and blue color to make a purple. I put it in our heated basement so it wouldn't get bumped and would be warm, and checked on it every few days. At first it just looked like purple mold growing on the inside of the cup, and it crept up to the rim. Then I noticed something was poking up from the middle of the liquid. I gave it a full week to grow and then got impatient and dumped out the solution and found a beautiful purple crystal inside (see pic!) The stuff growing on the inside of the cup wall just crumbled down the drain but the actual crystal is awesome! I can't believe it actually came out as well as it did and we'll be growing the other colors right away! A fun project for yourself or with kids. Just follow the instructions, then don't disturb it for a week or so and you'll have perfect crystals, too!

“STEM Magic for Tweens!"
I bought this 4M 7 Crystal Growing Science Experimental kit for my 12-year-old niece, and it's been a huge hit! The kit is easy to follow, and the crystals turned out beautifully. She's now hooked on science experiments and can't wait to try more. The kit is well-designed, safe, and perfect for young teens. Highly recommend for a fun and educational experience!
