Is there a way to make these clips more comfortable so they won't pinch the ear lobe??

I carefully and gradually bent the back piece. I pinched the curved piece at the back so the little grip did not extend outward as far. It worked for me. Good luck.

Do these have a rubber piece, and, will they work with fish hook type earrings?

They don't have a rubber piece. I have only used them with posts earrings. I mainly use them with Heavy earrings that I don't want my earlobes to pull down I'm too old to fool with that now. Btw if they pinch just carefully pull them backwards a tad. Not much it might break. Sometimes I'm in a hurry and don't feel like fighting with the piercing. I have A LOT OF PIERCINGS IN my ear, so anything to speed a long too. Plus you can't go wrong to have in hand. Not sure really about fish hook hadn't thought about.
