Equine Lameness for the Layman: Tools for Prompt Recognition, Accurate Assessment, and Proactive Management Review: veterinaraian approved! - This is absolutely the best book out there on visual diagnosis of lameness in horses. I say that as a veterinarian who practices sports medicine as well as equine bodywork. I wish I had had this book available as a vet student. This is no "lightweight" manual intended only for the horse owner, despite the title. This is text that is detailed, methodical and well organized in its thinking appropiate for vets, trainers and owners alike. It will take some work and thinking things over to work your way through this text, but it will be well worth it for any horse owner. I think it should be a required read for anyone training horses or riding them competitively, and frankly most vets could probably learn a thing or two from studying this manual. This is not merely for the "layman." Don't be fooled by the title. It is just the right length and comes with nice diagnostic algorithms in chart form as well as links to video. It doesn't dumb things down but also doesn't require one to be a vet either. Serious but not overwhelming. Review: A long awaited text for equine caregivers - This is the text I have been waiting for a veterinarian to write. There are videos supporting the discussion (you scan the code with your phone), illustrations, photos and charts. This book was not written so owners, trainers and for that matter, other health care professionals can diagnose. The bottom of the cover says it all: “Tools for prompt recognition, accurate assessment and proactive management.” In the introduction the author writes: “The primary objective of this book is to shorten the time frame between the onset of your horse’s problem and your recognition of it.” It is wonderful to see that someone has taken the time to write guidelines so the caregiver can get their steed the intervention by the veterinarian before the horse develops a larger problem or secondary issues. I highly recommend this book to everyone! It will be on Equinology's recommendation list for our students. Thank you Dr. Grisel! Above the Layman's Level, but Excellent
This book is no joke. It is dense, filled with veterinary terms and has many video links to actual examples. It is a wealth of information and helped me when discussing a horse's lameness with the vet two days ago. It is not an easy read but it is invaluable. HIGHLY recommend!

Clear, helpful resource for all serious horse lovers
This book translates top-notch veterinary expertise into an accessible and easy to use guide and tutorial for understanding and diagnosing the many sources of lameness. This book should be on the shelf of every horse owner, where undoubtedly it will be of great use in improving the lives and health of our beloved companions. The accompanying videos make the teaching concrete and are a great addition to the text.

Best book on recognizing equine lameness
This is easily one of the most valuable books on my equine book shelf. It is thorough, easy to understand, and the addition of video examples is brilliant. Between reading the material that is presented in clear and well ordered fashion and watching the case studies, you will learn a tremendous amount of useful skills in recognizing equine lameness.

For the love of deep knowledge
Not very practical but good for those who love deep knowledge and wants to have clear picture of what's going on with their horse.

It's like going back to school!
If you are looking for a multimedia approach to educating yourself about detecting lameness in horses this book is ideal. The book is very well written and organized with numerous photos and diagrams as well as video examples integrated into the text. I could not get my phone to scan the barcodes but all of the videos are available at getsound.com/tutorials. I find it much easier to look at videos on my computer anyway. It is obvious that this book is the result of profound dedication to and love for the horse.

I am working as holistic therapist for horses, practicing osteopathy, acupuncture and homeopathy. I am very interested in improving my skills regarding detecting lamenesses as well as to recognize problems as early as possible and even prevent the causes of these common problems. This book is full of knowledge, expertise and countless hours of work to present all kinds of lamenesses as comprehensible and easy to remember as possible. Great extra are all of the video-examples which are very helpful to see and understand. Thank you so much for your passion and knowledge which you share!

Easily the best textbook out there. Highly accurate in content and with clear and easy to follow descriptions and video links. Not really for the regular layman. However, should become a mandatory text for all veterinarian students and lameness specialists, trainers, and bodyworkers.

I adore this book, it's so informative and has exact videos you can scan a code with your QR scanner to view. Super book I recommend heavily. Also think it's a great accompanying book to essential hoof book by Christina Cline and Susan Kauffmann. Both when used together really open your eyes and mind to what we put horses feet through on a daily basis and things that can go wrong.
