A New Reference Grammar of Modern Spanish is a comprehensive, cohesive and clear guide to the forms and structures of Spanish as it is written and spoken today in Spain and Latin-America. It includes clear descriptions of all the main grammatical phenomena of Spanish, and their use, illustrated by numerous examples of contemporary Spanish, both Peninsular and Latin-American, formal and informal. Fully revised and updated, the sixth edition is even more relevant to students and teachers of Spanish. The sixth edition includes: โข new chapters, providing more detail and examples of key areas of Spanish grammar; โข an increased number of Mexican examples to reflect the growing interest in this countryโs variety of Spanish; โข new information for readers studying Spanish and French together; โข a glossary of grammatical terms including English translations of Spanish terms. The combination of reference grammar and manual of current usage is invaluable for learners at level B2โC2 of the Common European Framework for Languages, and Intermediate HighโAdvanced High on the ACTFL proficiency scales. Review: A most through reference book - A through reference book. Tons of information on Spanish grammar. I highly reccomend this book. Well worth the investment. Review: This book is a must as a study guide! - This is my go-to book. Everything is perfectly broken down. Some of the chapters lean into the B 1-2 level, but thatโs great-no need to update to another book. It will tell you if something is used more in one part of the world vs never used in another part. It has a nice glossary in the back which I refer to often. Index is detailed too. This book is helpful to me (Iโve been studying Spanish a few years), but even beginners that have a half decent Spanish vocabulary under their belt can start with chapter one which is the genders, then adjectives, the lo/le articles on so one. The chapters gradually build off each other from there. I feel itโs a worthy investment.

Great book
Definitely geared towards a college level the way it is laid out but a novice speaker can still learn a lot. A person can skip around and not work in a chronological order. Great benefit

BEST Advanced Spanish Grammar Reference Ever!
As the previous reviewer stated, yes, this does NOT include the companion grammar workbook (which can be found here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/113833927X/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1) So be warned, this listing is ONLY for the reference text. However, as someone who is preparing for the US Federal Interpreter's written exam, I have been searching high and low for a good advanced grammar reference text. After all, the exam serves to weed out even the best Spanish speakers (native and non) who cannot differentiate between formal grammar and the common errors that have proliferated in even the most educated groups of people in Latin America and Spain. Like the book says, its target audience is someone who is a European Level B2-C2 advanced speaker/student of Spanish. In the US system, I would say this is targeted at someone who has completed either a Bachelor's Degree or is doing/completing a Masters in Spanish. You're someone who has all of the grammar basics down, can read high register Spanish with relative ease, and are fluent or close to fluent in spoken Spanish. Now, you're just looking to polish your Spanish grammatical skills. If you're a beginner, this is a text you will probably want to skip over until you're more advanced in your studies. But once you're in your advanced college classes or preparing to apply for graduate school, definitely add it to your arsenal! I am incredibly impressed with how well chosen and organized this book is. The explanations are so clear and will help native speakers understand why something is correct beyond "because it just sounds right that way." The examples also give you a great visualization of the concepts in practice. I also greatly appreciate the regional explanations for why some grammatical forms are in practice in some countries and not in others. It also gives greater understanding and context for native speakers as to why maybe they've been hearing or saying something incorrectly their entire lives. Whether you're a Spanish grammar nerd or need this text to understand the grammatical rules of your native language, this is well worth the investment!

Excellent Spanish Language & Grammar Reference
This text provides a comprehensive and well organized and indexed grammar to answer all of my questions and begin to improve my use of grammar. Recently, I have been applying myself to improve my Spanish -- a very common spoken language in my community. I took a class in Mexico City, tested at CEFR B2. We had a great workbook in the class that gave minimal background and grammar to complete the worksheet exercises. I had been depending on my university level Spanish textbook for grammar, but that was not really complete. This fills an important gap and should improve my learning.

Tons of info! I feel like this will be very valuable as I improve my Spanish
Tons of info! I included a photo of the Table of Contents. From basics to advanced topics this book covers a lot... I can see myself referring to it for a very long time Sure enough (a week or so later) I'm translating a short story from English into Spanish. I put a sentence in Google to see what the AI Grammar Check would say, and it gave me a phrase that confused me: "respiro tan suave y profundamente como puedo" I wondered why it recommended two different adverb forms (sauve & profundamente) and so I wrote a note "LOOK UP ADVERBS." That night in bed I looked up the Adverbs section in this book and saw that when you have multiple adverbs ending in -mente, the -mente ending is excluded on all except the last adverb. And this book is *filled* with info. Kind of overwhelming, but I'll definitely be referencing it when I have questions or confusions like that. I prefer books to the internet.

When You're Serious About Learning Spanish
After you have had some experience with learning Spanish, and want to improve your level of understanding of the structure of the language, this is the book for you. It is a reference book, so it does not have lessons as such, but it will answer the questions that come up in your mind as you're learning. Questions like why is that sentence done that way or why did they use that verb tense there often pop into my head.

The answer to Spanish grammar.
If you want to get to grips with Spanish grammar then, although not cheap, this book will, I find, answer your queries. Not a book to start reading but to look up the information you need. I find it well laid out and easy, if grammar is ever easy, to understand. I refer to it a great deal and so glad that I bought it.
