How long have you left the probe and wire in hot liquid/material, and what temps? Will be good for a mash tun (155 F) or brew kettle (212 F)?

Hello, I use mine for the same thing. I use one of the units for a Mash Tun, I use the other for my HLT. However, the HLT only gets up to around 170 F. I have not put it into 212. I don't use it in my boil kettle. But it works fine in the others. I've had no problems.

I have three 9930's ( a predecessor unit). One has failed (reads "LLL"). Can I replace the 9930 with a 9940 & stick the 9930 probe into the 9940?

I expect the LLL means temperature lower then minimum, this is probably due to a bad cable (you can also try new batteries). I had a similar failure on a Taylor probe. The probe cable for this unit is soldered to the circuit board, so switching cables would entail taking it apart and soldering in the new probe cable. Without knowing the specs of both probes/cables it's impossible to say if they are compatible. I would suggest investing in a more expensive unit with K-type replaceable thermocouple.

Why can't you ship this to an military apo address? it is the same as shipping to nyc.
