Excellent for the price point! Highly recommended for a cheap phono preamp.
I was looking for a cheap phono preamp to pair with a new turntable that I had received from my father. This fit the bill exactly. I have played nearly 10 hours already on it and it sounds phenomenal. There is no buzzing or anything. It is crisp and clear as I would expect from any receiver that had a phono input built in. Easy to set up and very simple. Instructions are very clear as well. Only con is that the ground screw was extremely tight when I received it and had to use a wrench to free it up, but after that, it worked very nicely. I would be careful to align the ground wire just right on the screw as it is just above the power input. Shouldn't be a problem if you're aware of it. Overall, definitely recommend if you are looking for something quick and easy to install and are not too concerned with anything fancy or expensive.

Cheap, Compact, Effective
Behringer has done it again. The PP400 Ultra-Compact Phono Preamp is exactly what it looks like: It's ultra-compact. It takes up a very negligible amount of space. It will sit comfortably between a turntable and another component. In its compactness, though, it does NOT sacrifice usability. It has no trouble amplifying a turntable's signal to line level. Before buying a preamp, amp could only boost my turntable to a 'easy listening' level. The noise was evident in the signal due to far too much amplification being necessary. With the help of this preamp, my amp no longer acts as a crutch and I can comfortably listen to music without my amp's 'I'm turned up to 11 and struggling' noise. The build quality is far superior than anything else at this price point. It's not cheap plastic like many companies would try to sell, the entire enclosure is fairly thick metal. This makes for a nice interference shield and overall pleasing look. It also features a ground terminal which will hook up to many turntables and amps to further reduce interference. Unfortunately, there is no option to buy it in black. Judging from the accessible screws on the side, though, it would be a small task to take apart the enclosure and paint it myself if I wanted. This preamp also does not have a power switch, but this is not much of an issue. It's one small complaint on an otherwise amazing product. Summary: If you need a preamp, buy this one. It has the same build quality and performance as much more expensive preamps.

Very good value
This is a very good phono stage for the money. I wasn't expecting much for $25 but it delivers great performance. There is virtually no hum, even at high volumes although I do hear a little hiss when nothing is playing but it is very faint. The only downside of this phono stage is that it doesn't provide as much amplification as I would like. Even with my super efficient Grados hooked up to my tube amp, I have to crank the knob past 12 o'clock for normal listening volume. I only usually crank it to 8 or 9 o'clock. It also DOES NOT take MC cartridges so don't expect to use it if you have a moving coil. I doubt anyone with a MC cartridge would be looking at a $25 phono stage though. It seems very well built over all and I suspect it should last many years. The wall wart power supply leaves much to be desired but what do you expect for such a low price? Musically speaking, everything sound good although it isn't the most resolving of phono stages. You won't get the microdynamic details of a higher priced phono amp. But for this price, it really does nothing wrong.

Simple and effective
Very basic to set up and sounds great. For the price it cannot be beat. Lacks gain control but I didn't find myself needing it. Small enough to fit nearly anywhere.

It Works!
First off, I am old enough to have previously owned a record player (okay, it was my parents')...BUT, I am young enough that when I just bought a vintage record player, I had no idea that I needed a preamp! I contacted the people who sold it to me saying, "This thing doesn't work!" Well they told me that I needed a preamp if I didn't have a phono input on my stereo. I started researching preamps and a lot of them got bad reviews and a lot of websites said to be very careful what you buy. Well I trust Amazon reviews and this one seemed to be worth a shot. It works great! It has an input and output for RCA cables (and a 1/4" output as well), and a post for that pesky green ground wire. I fired it up (through my Sony home theater system) and the Beatles had never sounded so good. No batteries to mess with, just plug it in and start playing. Just remember that it doesn't come with an extra set of RCA cables, so you'll need some to go from the preamp to the stereo.

Does the job at a great price
Works great so far! Using this to connect an old Pioneer PL-15D II that I got at an auction for like $10 to a Denon AV receiver that doesn't have a phono input (then into Boston acoustics cr8 bookshelf speakers). Sounds great as far as I'm concerned. Note: I'm a musician, music lover and gear-head, but I don't consider myself an audiophile. I'm sure there are those for whom this unit would not be satisfactory. But if you're on a budget and your setup is on the midgrade / "consumer" end of the spectrum, I can't imagine why you'd be dissatisfied with this. I've used lots of behringer gear over the years in pro audio contexts - it always works and sounds fine (til it doesn't). That's the usual complaint about behringer: they've gotten a reputation (not without justification) for having reliability / QC issues. But like I said: so far so good on this piece, and at great price. If it flakes on me, I many try something nicer / more expensive. Or I might just take my chances on another of the same!

The build quality is v good. I am feeding the output to edifier powered speakers. Amplification is also v good. In fact, I had ceramic cartridge, so the amplification was too much, causing clipping noise. I fixed it by making an external attenuator using 47k potentiometers. Then I got excellent results, amazing clarity. Would have been good if the manufacturer gave that simple addition. Then you can easily adjust amplification for magnetic or ceramic cartridges, making it more versatile. Grounding that brass nut is very important to keep the hum to minimum. It is tightened toi much, so I needed a pair of pliers to loosen it. Nice product overall.

The device works extremely well and it brought to life my turntable that I thought I will never use again because of these modern receivers
