Great, no-frills thermostat.
Simple thermostat that does what it is supposed to do. First, this is a 4-wire thermostat - that means it doesn't draw power from your furnace and relies on batteries. Second, it has a lot of flexibility in how you program it - you can have a unique program for every day of the week, you can also have a unique program for M-F and then something different for S-S. It can be set to switch automatically between heating and cooling (where I live that is such a narrow margin we don't bother with that feature). The main display shows humidity, which is nice. Speaking of, the main display only lights up when you touch it. In terms of installation - total breeze. It's literally 4 wires and the instructions are super clear. It has a mounting plate with terminals for the wires making it even easier to install (and remove when you need to replace batteries). It has lots of set-up options to match different heating/cooling configurations - the defaults work for a standard gas furnace and single-stage AC. But if you have electric heat, heat pump, multi-stage, etc. it can easily be configured for that. In terms of accuracy - I find it to be within half a degree of my instant read thermometers - so no problems there at all. Overall, a great well-priced thermostat.

Great
Super easy to install and program only took 30minutes total, removing the old broken one and putting this one in. Great price as well. Works with my older system which doesn’t use WiFi connection

The price is right!
It’s very easy to install. I did it myself and I’m afraid of electricity. The directions are very simple and you can call Honeywell and they will help you. If you need it, the only thing I do not like about it is that it drains batteries quick and it keeps telling me to set the time and date I don’t wanna be bothered by that. I just want my AC to be cold.!! other than that it’s great

Good flexibility, good instructions. Easy to install and program.
I purchased this a few months back as a replacement for an older programmable thermostat that had corroded battery terminals, but I just installed it in the last few days. The installation instructions were very clear and the installation went quite smoothly overall. The trickiest part was I needed a COM wire to run this new thermostat without batteries (although batteries are still needed for backup), but I was fortunate that the existing thermostat had some extra unused wires. I just needed to make the COM connection at the HVAC end to have a COM connection for the new thermostat, so it wasn't too difficult. This is a more modern design than the unit that it replaced, so I'm not surprised to find that it has more features to make it more flexible. The touch screen provides access to a good range of menu options, but it didn't seem hard to program, either. I'm very interested in the Automatic Changeover capability which can switch between heating and cooling modes automatically if needed to maintain program temperatures. I think that may be useful in cases when the weather is changing and the need for heating or cooling is not as clear so it's easy to miss changing modes manually. I haven't seen that feature work yet, though. I'm using it in a home workshop area, so appearance is not super important, but it does have a simple and clean appearance, and I consider it a bonus that it displays the relative humidity in addition to the temperature. There is no WiFi connectivity and I chose this model for that reason. If it continues to meet expectations, I plan to replace my other older thermostats with this model.

Finally I found one with Circulate fan mode and ability to hard wire!
I found it very difficult to find which thermostats have the fan circulate mode AND the option to hardwire it so it does not need batteries to function. It took me hours to find this thermostat that has both. In my opinion, this is the best thermostat out there for those who are not looking for fancy gimmicks like connecting it to their wifi. Give me a break. How often will someone really need something like that? Most thermostats under $100 do not have the circulate fan mode. You can only turn the fan mode to auto or on. Auto simply means it only runs when the AC or heat is running and on means it is always on. More advanced thermostats have the extra fan mode called circulate. What it does is cause the fan to come on 1/3 of every hour if the AC or heat isn't needed. This causes the air in the house to circulate and keep each room's temperatures mostly the same. Without it, individual rooms can grow hot and stuffy due to things like body heat from people, pets, TV's, computers, etc. Of course, someone could just turn the fan mode to on but it is bad for the system because it needs a break after a cycle to properly take care of condensation and that would also take more power and raise the bill.. With circulate mode the system can cycle properly and only turn the fan on when the conditioning system it is not running for a while. It is a game changer at night time in Florida when my system stops running due to the temperatures dropping outside. My bedroom gets very stuffy and several degrees warmer than the living room where the thermostat is. This thermostat has been a life saver. I absolutely love it. It keeps me from having the turn the thermostat down one degree every night or from leaving the fan in the on position and taking a chance on damaging the system. Also, many of the new thermostats with the circulate fan mode require batteries and cannot be hardwired to the system. This one can be hardwired but can also take batteries. The only thing the batteries will help with is to keep the clock and date correct if the power goes out. It just takes a few seconds to set it so I don't use any batteries. Perhaps if I was setting a schedule for my system I would go ahead and throw batteries in it, but I don't use that function though this thermostat has it.

Just Smart Enough
When it came time to replace our clunky analog thermostat I immediately started looking at "smart" versions, because technology. And was immediately woo'd by one that came in a beautiful copper version that would match my home decor perfectly. All for only $250. And then I got to thinking. I already have 5 Alexa devices and a pretty open floor plan. It's already a competition to see what device in what room, bedroom? loft? kitchen?...will answer a request, I certainly didn't need to add another voice to the chorus. And we're on satellite internet, so if it's snowing and the dish is covered does and there's no wifi? Seems like that might be a time that I'd really want to make sure there was heat for the house. And then I started reading the reviews of the "smart" devices and how so many people were having problems overriding the thermostat to get the temperature the human preferred and not was smartly selected for them. I certainly didn't need a "Hal" - I'm sorry Dave, I can't let you do that. Based on the overwhelming good reviews of Honeywell products overall, I thought I'd spend a tenth of the cost of the smart thermostat and try just smart enough. So far so good. We have an incredibly basic system, only two wires, and my husband had no issue installing. (He did use a good stack of extra washers to get the unit to sit on the old units wall plate. This unit is smaller than our old one and we didn't want to deal with fixing the hole in the wall if we removed the whole thing). Running on battery is perfect for our household as we are off the grid and anything that isn't a constant power suck is a win in our book. Programming was easy enough, once you pass the initial learning curve. As others have noted, it's a bit of a pain with the back light turning off so quickly, but this is only an issue during programming and is certainly tolerable. Since we have in-floor radiant heat, I also turned off the "learning feature" of this unit. It takes a really long time to get the house up to a desired temperature. Last thing we need is this figuring out that it needs to turn on 6 hours early to reach a desired temp by a specific time. Hello propane bill, no thanks. It happily turns on at 6 AM and off at 9 AM, no fuss, no muss, and warm floors by the time we take showers. We are really pleased with the unit and have ordered a second one to replace the control for the other half of the house.

Best switch from a popular thermostat I’ve made
We got this to replace our nest thermostat that decided to go in the fritz a few months ago when it stopped calibrating to correct temperature inside the house. This thermostat has been so simple and eases my mind so much that it ACTUALLY shows the correct temperature inside. Display size is big enough for most to read, you can change the colors of the background to see it better if need be. The current wires we have were compatible to switch to this thermostat from a 3rd gen nest thermostat. I bought this on Black Friday so I got an amazing deal on it after doing days of research. It’s capable of making a schedule which is handy. It doesn’t connect to WiFi so you can’t change the temps from your phone which I miss. All around I like this thermostat compared to the nest, best investment I made

Beware Terms of Warranty
Purchased this item on Amazon on May 18th 2019 and had it professionally installed about a month later by our HVAC contractor. Unit functioned well until a few days ago when the display began flashing screens rapidly and randomly. We had our HVAC technician come in. He checked the power, found it correct, and replaced the unit with the original thermostat he had removed to install this programmable unit. The original thermostat immediately functioned properly and continues to do so. Just got off the phone with Honeywell, deeply dissatisfied with their requirements before they will honor their one year warranty. The customer service person said they could not give me an RMA to return the unit for warranty replacement unless we provided a picture of us with a volt meter showing the voltage reading or a sworn statement from a technician documenting power testing. As we are not HVAC or electrical professionals, it is entirely inappropriate to force on us the choice to pull the original thermostat professionally re-installed to replace this defective unit, purchase a power meter, and test the power OR pay a technician more than the cost of the unt to return, do so, and make a written statement. Buyer beware. A warranty is useless if it costs you more to exercise it than the value of the warranteed item. All we asked was an RMA to return a defective unit which Honeywell is in a position to test and replace. What we got was an obvious attempt to make replacing a defective unit so onerous and expensive a task that no sensible person would do so. We will not in the future purchase any product of Honeywell.

Highly Recommended!!!
This is an extremely versatile thermostat. Super easy to install. An impressive number of programming features, and the touch screen makes it super easy to program. Very impressed! You can partially or fully lock out the screen. Runs on 3 AA batteries. Has a backlit screen that comes on with a touch of the screen and will go off on a time delay with battery only power. If you have a C wire or want to run a small 24 volt power supply (to power the C wire input), it will stay lit all the time at selectable light intensities. It also gives you room humidity, which is nice as perceived temperature is related to humidity. Although this thermostat has wire inputs for almost every imaginable input, it can also be wired with as few as two wires for an old school furnace like I have. Simply hook your red (or black) wire to the R input and your white wire to the W input. Works perfect. And although I have a simple furnace, this thermostat can still be programmed to anticipate the heat changes and cut in early - if you like. You can program the maximum cycles per hour. Lots of cool features. I appreciated the size, square shape, pleasant white backlight, and ease of installation. It does NOT have a color screen, or Wi-Fi capabilities, but I was looking for a "simple" one without Wi-Fi. It also does not do high voltage switching (120 Volt line voltage). Honeywell has other models, with those features - if desired - see their website. The only feature lacking which I did want is cumulative run time tracking (for the furnace or AC). I had that on one of my previous Honeywell thermostats and really liked this feature. It seems like the only thermostats which offer this any more only offer it if have a Wi-Fi thermostat and log into a website to get the info. Honeywell - please bring this feature back an option on regular thermostats! I have installed programmable thermostats in several houses, and have always liked and preferred the Honeywell brand. Consumers reports also liked this thermostat (Model RTH8560D) for functionality and ease of programming. I could not agree more. Highly recommended!!!

No complaints
Installed this thermostat about a week ago... and our weather's been crazy so I already got to test the Auto AC/Heat switch feature, which works perfectly. Programming is fairly simple and intuitive, no need to refer to the manual. Installation only took about 10 minutes and couldn't have been easier. As for the complaint some people have about the temperature being way off, I compared it to two accurate thermometers and the difference was less than one degree Celsius, which I can certainly live with. In reality, the displayed temperature doesn't really mean much. Set it to wherever you're comfortable and leave it at that. Plus I got it from Amazon's Warehouse Deals for $75 Cdn. Good deal.

Large print on screen
Nice little device. Comes with mounting screws. Easy to install and program. Note that you have to hold down the menu button to get to the more detailed selection options. Also nice that you can toggle between F and C. That used to be a problem if you chose wrong. Display dims went not in use and one tap to brighten. System will increase/decrease temperature to meet you setting for the time you select. If you want 60 at 6am it will slowly increase/decrease to get to 60 at 6am. Nice feature to select from the program.
