Review: And excellent translation by Edith Grossmann and an incredible introduction by Harold Bloom - In his breathtaking introduction of this book, Harold Bloom compared Cervantes with shakespeare and Don Quixote with Hamlet and described Captain Ahab of Moby Dick as a blend of Don Quixote and Hamlet with a touch of Milton's Satan added for seasoning. An incredible introduction by such a great critic. While reading the prologue of the novel I felt quite hypnotized, especially when Cervantes introduced his fictional friend to receive cynical workarounds to fake erudition. Edith Grossmann's translation is excellent. Bloom wrote in the introduction 'Grossmann might be called the Glenn Gould of translators'. I am still reading the part one of this magnum opus of Cervantes. And enjoying it thoroughly.
