I got this coolant tester to check the coolant freeze point in my old 2001 pickup truck. I bought the truck back in the spring and had no idea whether the former owner actually put the correct coolant mixture in it or if it was too diluted to be safe through the winter. This tester gave me the info I needed and now I'm not worried about my coolant freezing and damaging the engine! This is a simple, bulb-type of tester. The instructions are very simple and clear. First you open the radiator/coolant cap while the car is cool. With the cap off, start the car and let it get up to operating temperature. Next, squeeze the bulb on the tester and draw enough coolant out of the radiator or reservoir to fill the tester up to the "fluid level" line. Hold the tester vertically, using the level line to make sure it's level, then look at the large pointer to get your reading. The front side shows the temperature you can get to before freezing, and the back side shows the boiling point. Mine read -20°F freeze point, which is safely within the safety zone for my area. This simple tool is easy to use, works flawlessly, and gives very valuable information. The peace of mind is absolutely worth the cost.
