I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The book didn't do it for me. In the movie, all that redundant chatter is eliminated. Unlike the book, vampire fight scenes were included. The cast was well picked, with the exception of Rosalie. I didn't find her to be drop dead gorgeous. The atmosphere of this small, rainy town was captured. For me, the characters came to life in this movie. You, finally, get a visualization and the feeling of being drawn into the characters of Edward and Bella. You can understand Bella's fascination and determination to unravel the mystery of Edward, after he saved her life. You understand, Edward is a "vampire". He acts differently. He talks differently. His looks are different. I think a lot of the book reviewers thought of him as a human male and found his behavior distasteful. The character is a vampire and he's alluring...period. He wasn't 17. He was old and you picked that up, right away. He has old eyes. Bella didn't have a chance. As a matter of fact, if she had shunned him, he would have "turned" her. All of Bella's begging to become like him would have been eliminated. He meant to have her. As it stood, he didn't need to turn her...he had her and she was willing. In the movie, the character of Edward was as hypnotic and mesmerizing as any of the vampires of old. Bella wasn't a wimp. The girl was hypnotized with a "light touch" and she wasn't fighting it. I would have enjoyed more action scenes. A tastefully done sex scene would have been a welcome addition. I understand Meyers is a Mormon. Can't write about premarital sex, but the occult is okay? Interesting. Also, there were moments of beauty and excitement in the "Twilight" movie. The nature scenes were beautifully shot. Actually, I found the book became a little boring. If you didn't care for Meyer's writing style, you may like the way it was adapted for the screen. I sure did. It was a mystery to me why Meyer's books are so popular because her writing in Twilight sucks...it's just the truth. I'm truly a reader. I couldn't force myself to read anymore of that series, but I was still enchanted by the premise of Twilight, while wishing another author had written it for her. I had to ponder why her books are so vastly popular. My take: Her books are modeled (rather closely) after great literary works, written by great authors, whose works have stood the test of time...."Romeo and Juliet"; "Wuthering Heights"; "MidSummer's Night Dream", etc..I really think that is one major attraction to her books. They resonate. They strike a familiar cord within us. Her characters actually give a "fresh spin" to these, well loved, great works of literature, and in the case of Romeo and Juliet; we get the happy ending we longed for. In the movie, "New Moon", my favorite scene was the angst Bella experienced, while trying to reach Edward in time to save his life and then succeeding. In those star crossed lovers, I was given the ending, I wished for Romeo and Juliet. Heathcliff and Catherine love each other. Heathcliff(ie, Bella) felt Catherine didn't deem him "good enough" for her, but Catherine truly loved him. They separate in misunderstanding. Both suffer immensely. Meyers gives us the ending we wanted for Heathcliff and Catherine...to reunite in their love, while alive. Combine that with the long standing intrigue of vampires and a ordinary, self absorbed girl that "makes good". Stehenie Meyers may not ever become a great author or even a good one, but she's smart. Meyers rewrote the endings of some great literary works and has left us clamouring for more. She may be brilliant. For sure, it's left her rich. You go girl!

Great movie

This film and book series confirm how the world should work or at least how it works best. It shows this in a creative fun fantastical way though...People with certain political agendas will not appreciate this fact. For example, the structure of the hierarchies in these films are how things should work. Ed Cullen protects and takes care of Bella Swan. He seeks to protect her. He is CHIVALROUS!!! ( Yes, he is a little nutty about it...but he is an inexperienced vampire in love (and are not we all a bit nutty when we are young?) who has nothing to do at night...His sneaking in at night is pushing the envelope but if you read the books including Midnight Sun you see that he is obsessed about keeping her safe from other vampires and herself as she is accident and bad luck prone. As in most things, it is the intention of one's heart that must be revealed to understand people's actions and only the Big Guy really knows this. But in this case, we have Meyers to tell and explain this in the books better ). These things bring on one of the first books and films to nail true romance between 2 people. There is sexual tension. You know these people are in love...no doubt. But beautifully and dramatically, Ed Cullen ABSTAINS from sex until marriage!!! It is a revolution!!! Who has heard of that....? Well, it was done all the time before 1960 as a practice and for 10,000 to 100, 000 years in human history before that. It must have worked because the world was kind of more orderly then. ...? This Abstinance fact makes the sexual tension continue throughout the Saga. When there is a sex scene after they are married, it is tender yet passionate...yet fairly modest and touching as Both Bella and Edward are shy! It is soooooo tender and touching....How things in the bedroom should be....and most people miss out on because they believe the lies. I think this can be used to teach teen girls (and boys) about sex...how to abstain and how beautiful it is to ABSTAIN. It is a visual that girls (and boys) can appreciate. These 2 things and many other good things make this story unpopular to HOLLYWOOD. Of course, Hollywood does not want to promote anything that is actually good because most people there are a bit crazy. I believe Chadwick was taken off because she was pushing back on the good stuff in this story. But that is just a suspicion. I woukd also like to add that the main characters are very good kids.....good kids....the kind of kids parents dream to have be their children's friends....They have their problems but seem to make good decisions in the end. It is a fantasy. I would not recommend marrying a vampire in real life though...;)

I went into the Twilight movies sort of under protest as my granddaughter had the books and said I just "had" to see the movie. Let me tell you I actually found myself really enjoying the movie from the very beginning, which for me was extremely unusual as I really was never much a fan of vampire type movies. I did like supernatural type movies - but never a fan of gore and to me vampires rated up there with gore or cheap B rated, unbelieveable type movies. So it was with this mindset I had never been drawn toward the books, never mind the movie itself. But I do like movies featuring young people and looking at life through their eyes - and did see all that I did like about movies right from the start of Twilight. The edging in of the vampire twist was so subtle it practically went unnoticeable by me as I got drawn into the story of Bella and knowing what it had been like to be the new girl in school - many times through out my own early life. So when the fact the more beautiful than life Edward appeared on the scene - I could already feel a beautiful love story unfolding long before I knew he was a vampire. I also loved the way he made vampirism not the gore and horrible threat it had always been portrayed in Hollywood since there had been motion pictures. It was fun discovering Edwards world and the history of his family (clan) a small piece at a time - so that truly by the end of the movie I was not only hooked on this truly lovely unfolding young love story, but I was hungering to see more and learn more of the histories that had always been such a horror story to me before. I was at last actually turning tides in favor of vampires and actually wanting to learn everyone of the families stories - yet at the same time learning the story of Bella, her own family, and getting to know the regular kids she was forming friendships with. It did not hurt I was also being drawn in by young Jacob Black, as I was always fond of the histories of real life American Indians, so it was a bit fun to look at Jacob and his family as not really being any different than any other American young person - yet it was obvious there was something about this tribe that made it a little more special than any other. So at the end of the first movie, I was also interested in knowing much more about Jacobs family and history as well.

This movie was amazing I like watching it over and over I wish that the rentals lasted longer but overall it's pretty cool

Twilight is a movie that is adapted from a series of books that are mainly aimed at teens or young adults, setting teenage love drama in the world of vampires and werewolves (although the wolves are only hinted at in this movie). It stars Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen, a vampire who is over 200 years old but perpetually stuck as a 17-year old, and Kristen Stewart who plays Bella Swan, a teenager whose parents are divorced, who just moves in with her dad in the Pacific Northwest, and ends up going to school with Edward and his "siblings" played by Ashley Greene, Nikki Reed, Kellan Lutz, and Jackson Rathborne. Of course, Bella and Edward fall for each other, and chaos (and sappiness) ensues. Taylor Lautner plays Jacob Black, a member of the local Native Americal tribe who also falls for Bella. His role in this movie is limited but gets more extensive over the course of the series. The movie is decent to good in some parts and bad in others. Despite having a cast with people who have proven acting chops (including Anna Kendrick, Peter Facinelli, Sarah Clarke (whom fans of the show 24 will recognize), and Billy Burke, it definitely suffers from some of the clunky dialog carried over from the books or made worse by the screenplay. And, the special effects have (at times) a lot to be desired for a big-budget movie. That said Pattinson and Stewart have very good chemistry (they would actually start dating while filming the movie) and did their best with sometimes very limited material to work with. They were both still pretty young when the movie was filmed (especially Stewart) and each has grown into being very good actors beyond what was shown in this film. Another issue with the film is that the ancillary characters truly do feel ancillary. They were always trying to get to the next scene between Edward and Bella and so the other characters (especially the other high schoolers) really did just feel like filler. Kendrick had a couple of good snarky lines, but beyond that, those characters were pretty useless. For those who get the Blu-Ray, the movie looks and sounds great. Especially the cinematography. As I said, some of the special effects left a bit to be desired, especially when the vampires were moving fast (superseded is done a lot better on the Flash TV series), but still I think the movie is worth seeing in the HD format. There are actually a ton of extras, including a commentary track on the film with the director, Pattinson, and Stewart, deleted and extended scenes, music videos, an almost hour-long making-of feature, a feature on the movie at comic-con, the trailers, some promotional material. All in all a good amount for people who like going through extras. Overall, the movie is good, but not great. Obviously, anything that is adapted from a series of novels that are aimed at teens is going to have a lot of people that love it and a lot of people that hate it. I think that the movie can be enjoyed even if you are not in the target audience if you know what to expect. It is mostly a love story, and one set in high school at that, and while it does have some action and a bit of violence, it is not a gory horror movie. That said, it is worth a look.

An sich finde ich, dass 'Twilight- Biss zum Morgengrauen' ein guter (ich betone) >Film< ist. Zwar ist allgemein bekannt, dass Buchverfilmungen selten an die Qualität des Originals heranreichen, was ebenso hier der Fall ist. Trotzdem ist der Film durchaus sehenswert-- trotz der speziellen Zielgruppe. Denn im Gegensatz zum Buch, in dem es in erster Linie um die Beziehung von Edward und Bella geht und die feindlichen Vampire erst im letzten Drittel oder Viertel überhaupt erwähnt werden/auftauchen, werden diese im Film bereits fast von Anfang an mit eingebaut, sodass man sich über sie Gedanken macht, obwohl der 'Beziehungsteil' nicht einmal angeschlossen ist. Das ist etwas schade, denn meiner Meinung nach wirkte es trotz der Plötzlichkeit der Bedrohung im Buch nicht abgehackt und im Film wird gleich Action mit Romantik vermischt. So gesehen ist der Film weder das eine noch das andere-- weder nur romantisch, noch nur spannend. Kann man mögen, ist aber eigentlich schade: In der Zeit in der die 'Feindsequenzen' eingebaut wurden, hätte man ruhig noch die Beziehung von Bella und Edward ausbauen können. Darüber hinaus wird Edwards Dilemma nicht ganz klar. Im Buch wird später klar: Aha, er hätte Bella fast abgeschlachtet, weil sie seeeehr gut riecht. Menschen allg. kann er widerstehen, aber nein, in der Schule wär er am ersten Tag fast auf Bella losgegangen. Abgesehen davon, dass Edwards Verschwinden für eine Woche im Film garnicht erst aufgeklärt wird: Dort wird irgendwie alles verallgemeinert. Edwards Äußerungen kann man nicht vollständig entnehmen, dass er ausgerechnet Bella nicht widerstehen kann, außer einem Mal: In der 'Lichtungsszene' ('Du bist wie eine Droge für mich- Meine ganz persönliche Droge'/'It's like a drug to me. Like my own personal brand of heroin'). Auch ein Fall für sich, eigentlich. Während sich im Buch -mehr oder weniger friedlich- gegenüber gesessen, geredet und einander näher kennengelernt wird, ist die 'Meadow-Scene' sehr unruhig. Edward wirkt eher frustriert und will Bella mehr verscheuchen, als ihr klarzumachen, dass er sich trotz ihrer 'Anziehungskraft' benehmen kann. Nicht ganz originalgetreu, sind aber beides (soweit das in einem Fantasy-Roman denn möglich ist) realistische Möglichkeiten. Durch Edwards 'Feindseligkeit' im Film, könnte man allerdings auch an seiner Zuneigung zweifeln. Meine Freundin war der Meinung, es stünde zu viel offen: Warum war Edward weg und warum wechseln seine Augen die Farbe? Ein berechtigter Punkt, eigentlich, doch wenn man nur den Film gesehen hat, kommen einige Fragen garnicht erst auf. Es ist gut zu wissen, dass Vampire hungrig sind, wenn ihre Augen schwarz sind, doch wenn man das nicht weiß, ist das nicht total schlimm. Ich finde es schon gut, wie die Augenfarbe überhaupt dauernd beachtet wurde. So. Also. Wie komme ich nun auf ein 5-Sterne-Fazit, wenn bisher eher Mittelmäßigkeit erwähnt wurde? Obwohl einiges aus dem Buch weggelassen wurde, sind die Schlüsselszenen gut umgesetzt. 'Edwards' Blick als er Bella zum ersten Mal sieht ist einfach unbezahlbar (gut). Die 'rette Bella vor'm Zerquetschen'-Szene ist sogar besser gelöst als im Buch. Ist es nicht realistischer, wenn Edward sie ungläubig/erschrocken ansieht à la 'Whups. Okay, das hätt' ich jetzt vielleicht nicht tun sollen', und wegrennt, anstatt sich noch mit ihr zu unterhalten? Bellas Besuch bei seinen Eltern ist eigentlich auch ganz schnuckelig (wenn auch etwas unseriöser als im Buch; Edward würde nie über einen Witz lachen, der Bellas Verletzbarkeit betreffen würde(siehe/höre Rosalie in der Küche) und hat 'normalerweise' mehr Respekt vor seinen Eltern. Und erstaunlicherweise die in der sich Bella von ihrem Vater 'verabschiedet' um vor James zu fliehen. Natürlich ist auch der Rest des Filmes ganz gut, aber eben die wichtigsten waren gut gelöst. An die fremdliche Lichtungsszene gewöhnt man sich. Was auf jeden Fall gelobt werden muss, sind die Schauspieler. Allgemein passen sie ziemlich gut in ihre Rollen (Außer Rosalie. 'Sie' ist zwar sehr hübsch, vermittelt für mich allerdings nicht das Bild der schönsten Frau übehaupt) und sind (außer Bella teilweise, wird aber nur in der englischen Version eindeutiger) überzeugend. Alice, Carlisle und Edward, für sie hätte es keine passenderen Schauspieler geben können. Und auch wenn einige von Robert Pattinson als Edward enttäuscht sind: Er passt nunmal in die Rolle. Edward ist schön und jung, aber gleichzeitig erwachsen ud gefährlich. Ich denke es ist schwer einen Schauspieler zu finden, der gleichzeitig gut, erwachsen und irgendwie gefährlich aussieht. Zac Efron, beispielsweise, wäre dem doch in keinster Weise gerecht geworden(geschweige denn zu Kristen Stewart gepasst)... Andererseits hat mir die Musik sehr, sehr gut gefallen. Sowohl The Score, als auch der normale Soundtrack. Besonders die 'Phascination Phases' und die Musik im Wald. Soundtrack schön wechselhaft, aber passend; the score düster, aber passend. Fazit: Wer ewig damit verbringt, den Film mit dem Buch zu vergleichen, der wird davon nichts haben. Aber der Film selbst ist trotz fehlender Kleinigkeiten schlüssig(was bei Verfilmungen schon selten vorkommt) und eigentlich ganz nett gemacht. Wie zu Beginn schon erwähnt, liegt der Fokus etwas mehr auf Frustration und Action, aber damit kann man leben. Einfach mal ein halbes Jahr das Buch nicht lesen, DVD zulegen, und los geht's. Und wer das nicht will, sollte sich zumindest den Music From The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack kaufen.
