Why does the speaker have two pairs (4 total) speaker posts?

Because it is the like having 2 speakers in one. Hook one pair to the right channel and one pair to the left channel.

Yes that is correct. I used some scrap 3 conductor cable, 14-3 I think, for this run. Much easier running 1 cable as apposed to 2 speaker wires.
