Excellent Quality - Fabulous Features
We purchased 5 of the RC-51 data logger thermometers to validate shipping containers that are used to transport refrigerated products. We will be ordering more to monitor each shipment. The software used to configure the data loggers is fantastic... easy to install and use to configure the device parameters. The software is also used to read the data points from the data logger automatically when it is plugged into the computer usb port. As soon as the data is loaded a graph of the data is automatically produced along with a table of the time and temperature of each data point. The graph, table and device parameters are automatically used to produce a report which can be exported as a .pdf. Excel spreadsheet, a text file or another format I am not familiar with. The reports clearly document the temperature changes over the duration of the validation period (or shipment). The work effort to configure the data logger and place it into a shipping container, then read the data logger to produce graphs takes only a few minutes of work effort. Doing this procedure manual (with a fraction of the number of data points that were logged) required several hours of work effort. The labor savings with a single validation was greater than the cost of the data logger. The RC-51 data loggers have many useful features: Wide temperature range (-30 to +70'C Nist certified - Data readings can be set from 1 reading every few seconds to 1 reading every few hours (with a 1 minute time interval the data logger has sufficient memory to last 22 days. With a 15 minute interval there str sufficient memory to read temperature fluctuation for over 1 year - Each data logger has a unique serial so the software automatically tracks the identity of the data logger - Historic data read from a data logger is stored automatically by the software - There are 3 settings for how the device can be set to start recording - Nist certified - Waterproof and dust proof

Compact data logging solution
Nice product. Compact and records both temperature and humidity. A bit fiddly to use. I had one sitting outside for four days collecting - nothing - because I hadn’t set it to record. The small display and subtle status symbols require some acuity to avoid such errors. I also over recorded data once when I tried to stop it recording and managed to start it again in the same button press. The instructions aren’t perfect and I am still not sure if the behavior of the product matches them. The PC SW app is simple and effective although I cannot get it to export anything other than a pdf file. I would prefer a csv or xls. But, I think it is a cost effective tool for your average tech tool kit.

Solid cold temperature monitor, especially for the price
After a problem with our refrigerator, I looked for a better solution for ongoing temperature monitoring than the classic $5 uncalibrated dial thermometer. I found this device, and based on the specs and reviews, gave it a try. I deliberately purchased the IP67 rated model rather than the version that included a humidity sensor. First, I am not particularly concerned about the humidity in the fridge. Second, the fully sealed pen could have its calibration verified by submerging it in an ice bath. The ice bath verified that it read 32°F dead on, until the glass of ice melted, then it followed the water as it warmed. Since then it has sat on a shelf in the fridge, knocking around among the jars of pickles, jams, and spreads. Occasionally, I've pulled it out to read it. And that process is a point where it shines. Once it is configured, you can simply unscrew the water-tight cap to reveal a USB A plug and plug it in to any PC. When connected, it will process its log and create a report in a PDF file, then act like a common USB pen drive so you can copy the report aside. No software is required to create the report, and the file it produces is readable with any PDF viewer. It is even reasonably nicely formatted, with a summary page at the front full of statistics and a plot, and a table of every temperature reading stored on the following pages. At this point (assuming you've read this far) you might be wondering what happened to the fifth star. I'd actually prefer to give it four and a half, but the rating system doesn't allow partial credit. My issue here is the software provided for download. You need to install and run this software in order to configure the logger. It does run, but it has a number of rough spots and outright blunders that make me wince. A big issue is that it did not follow any of the usual Windows conventions for installation location: and it defaulted to wanting to be installed in a folder on C:\. That is simply not done these days. Even after I forced the installation to a better location, it made a shortcut to the default folder instead of the place I moved it to. Installation foibles aside, the application is fairly clunky and not really all that friendly to a new user. It does look like it was intended to be used in a commercial setting to track and log a fleet of these loggers, and I suspect that a fleet of 100s would be just as inconvenient to deal with as my single unit. In a commercial setting, these are inexpensive enough that one could be included in the packaging of a temperature sensitive product when shipping, and you could expect the recipient to be able to produce and email the PDF report on receipt. For a high-valued shipment, the $25 logger might not even be worth the postage required to recover it. My bottom line is that I'm pleased with it living in my fridge, and I've already recommended it to several friends. I'm just not entirely enthralled by the software quality.

Great tool
I’ve had to go behind other companies throwing parts a post 2020 refrigerators on a brand in a SXS configuration freezer size stays at 0Degs refrigerators side all over too cold 30-48Degs I’ve had 10 service calls on same model after letting this gather data set wiring with manufacturer they redesigned the main PCB. I guess no one took the time to log the TEMP/Humidity I e-mail the file of 4 unit with same problem they changed the parameters on board, part number was so new it had to be sent right to customer this is becoming the new norm on post 2020 refrigerators temp problems. The option on this tool has graph or column. You will need a win or OS Platform usb software is free. I have a small 14in laptop to upload datasets after 24hrs or 7 days great tool solved problems that would have been guess work, or verification of what I know, without it the manufacturer would have just been a 5 mins order parts conversation vs you have what ? Real data in the field.. big difference

completely stopped working
Waste of money. I bought it six months ago and only used it once. When I finally decided to use it daily, it completely stopped working—it wouldn’t turn on at all. I reached out to customer service, but never received a response.

Used it to log temps in the greenhouse over the winter. Computed the number of minutes per to last 8 months before reset. Had a small user error (mine) when programming it as I selected 10s vs 10m and the buffer filled up. Fixed it when I noticed after taking the first weeks samples and buffer was almost full. Has worked flawlessly up to -25C temps.

traduit comme lot de 5 enregistreurs alors qu'en réalité il s'agit d'une unité en anglais!
