Cheaper than Mucinex
I take this along with Mucinex whenever I have a cold. I feel like the Mucinex is a bit easier because it's 12-hour relief and I have a hard time remembering to take my Robitussin. I would take Mucinex D by itself but it raises my blood pressure so in the meantime, I pair this with Mucinex DM Maximum Strength 12-Hour Expectorant and Cough Suppressant Tablets, 42 Count and it's a perfect match. Yes, it tastes kind of awful and saccharine because of what I'm sure are artificial sweeteners. It's medicine, not candy or a milkshake. If your household gets sick, you'll blow through the 4 oz bottle really quickly so I recommend the 8 oz. As for taking it alone without other OTC, I'm not sure if I find that it's strong enough.
