SMSL DP3 Hifi Audio Wifi Player DAC with Bluetooth LAN Network USB SD AES Inputs and Balanced and Unbalanced Headphone Jack Out

This is amazing little product. Considering its cost, it is fantastic value. It is not the most elegant piece of equipment but then it costs less than £200. It arrived in what looked like flimsy packaging, but was obviously adequate as it arrived in perfect condition having travelled from China without damage. Easy to hook up although the instruction manual detail is very sparse. It only makes proper sense once you’ve read it several times. The display is very small, which is ok when you are sitting close like when using headphones but not when listening through speakers. For this you need to use a phone app then it is fine. The remote has to be synced with the unit for it to work. This you do by pressing the button B. The DAC is good and the volume can be controlled by the app, remote or the dial on the front. However, the dial is a little hit and miss as there are 2 positions per click, so it’s better to avoid using it. Controlling the nas drive is also easier on the app as the menu system on the machine is long winded. Haven’t tried using music stored on a usb stick, so can’t comment on how effective it is. The sound quality is brilliant through headphones. I am finding it a little thin on bass when running speakers and careful choice of cables is needed to control the brightness of the higher notes otherwise it becomes very bright. Bluetooth also works well. If you can cope with the small display then it is a product well worth trying. All in all, an excellent product.

Not interested in streaming etc. Connected my music via micro sd and external hard drive. I use the Android app Hiby to play the music and turn the volume up and down. I found this one of the few all in one media players to do this. I am using this via phono cables connected to my nearly 40 year amp. Sound quality good but i don't think as good as my £26 u-phono ufo202 dac via laptop or my old Marantz cd player, but will do for now.

Absolutely brilliant. Needed a device to stream DSD from a Synology NAS to an optical output. Works totally flawless. A great device.

Great if you want to play music stored on an SD card but totally useless trying to connect to DNLA server on computer. Customer service equally useless. Cannot access the network folders as unit is asking for login credentials even though the server is not password protected. The answer I got from SMSL customer services was to leave both fields blank. This solution does not work. Hiby app is even more useless than the DP3 device. Constantly crashing. Just wish I never bought this piece of sh*t.

I really wanted to like this device – been looking for a small simple network player for a while now. I have other streamers around the house including a Cyrus unit in the lounge and also a Yamaha which both work flawlessly with my Qnap NAS … This little very well made and good looking player will NOT play ball for NAS streaming. Constant glitching and 0.5 to 1 second drop outs make it impossible to use as intended. These occur on both WiFi and Cabled LAN connections. It does play fine from a USB stick shoved up it’s rear, but that’s not what I wanted it for. Have tried firmware upgrade to no avail and even a friends NAS, same problem. Pros: Well made all metal case work Sounds very good to me with FLAC files and 320 MP3s No wall wart needed, mains straight in .. Remote basic but good Cons: Useless as network player Gapless is far from smooth Album artwork completely obscures track info Jog knob over sensitive and very frustrating Terrible control app (Hiby Link) if installed on my Galaxy S9 wrecks Bluetooth connect ion to my car, have had to uninstall it – anyhow you can’t use it for NAS playback control it only sees USB or SD card music .. Stupid Shame, because I tend to like Chinese niche products – Sometimes they outpace the big names …. This one don’t!

Ich war lange auf der Suche nach einem Gerät, dass Audiofiles direkt von Festplatte oder SD-Karte abspielen kann. Vielleicht ist der DP3 ja auch ein "Ausgewogene Kopfhörer Verstärker" (Original Verkaufstitel!) aber für mich ist es der Ideale Digital-Player. Es werden nahezu alle Audioformate gelesen. Zwar ist der Bildschirm sehr klein, aber über die freie HiBy-App kann die Bedienung sehr komfortabel via Bluetooth über das Handy stattfinden. Die Cover werden auf beiden Geräten dargestellt. Die Verarbeitung ist ganz hervorragend (schweres Metallgehäuse, gute Haptik des Multifunktionsknopfes) und bei Geräten in diesem Preissegment eher eine Ausnahme.

Belle découverte que ce lecteur réseau, qui fait aussi office de dac. Ses nombreuses connexions et sa finition font de lui un appareil redoutable à ce prix. Rélié par un cable coax à un Dac, il délivré une restitution de tout 1er plan, c'est aéré, vivant, précis, aucun acidité et avec de la présence. On peut aussi lire à partir d'une carte micro SD ou un disque dur et parcourir les contenus avec la télécommande. On peut le piloter grace à des applications Android ou Apple en wifi, bluetooth, DLNA, ethernet.

Powerful and compact HD Audio player. Best point is that it can accommodate 4TB Exyernal HDD. Hy-bi connectivity is great.

Tiene una variedad enorme de conexiones de salida y entrada. Yo lo utilizo para hacer un puente entre mi MacBook y el DAC. Ya que la toma de corriente AC por usb me generaba un poco de interferencia si conectaba el DAC directamente al portátil. Ahora conectado el SMSL vía WIFI y el SMSL al DAC vía usb al dac he conseguido eliminar el ruido. Se conecta bastante rápido y tiene multitud de opciones. Tiene sistema de apagado y encendido que mi DAC no tenia.

Simply Fantastic! Connected up an external 2.5” 2TB USB hard drive with over 6000 recordings of both Hi Resolution Flac’s and assorted MP3’s, then connected via the fiber-optic digital output to the SMSL AD18 Amp with two Andrew Jones tower speakers and a powered sub...what can I say but the sound quality is really very, good. Using the free compatible Hiby app on an old Samsung S4 phone that I had lying around, I can now access and control all my hard drive music via my house wifi connection...Great!. Also, the Remote that is included supports both the DP3 and the AD18 so now I have a spare...another bonus! Yes, I highly recommend this product when properly connected to a good quality amp and speakers. Total invested in system with DP3, AD18, Hard Drive, all the cables, speakers and sub: (not including the used phone or the music collection) just under $1400.00 Canadian Dollars. For comparison, (at normal listening levels) this sounds as good or better than my main Audio Room set-up that is currently using a variety of higher end older Harman Kardon components connected to very large, sensitive Klipschorn speakers...the SMSL system is not as loud, but then it is ideally matched for my secondary smaller sized sound room. When it comes to price, there does not seem to be anything else like this product for managing the many file formats it supports while still including a nice display screen to show the album art and having a multitude of connectivity options. I will be getting a second DP3 for my main audio room to listen on my primary system...I’ll comment on that set-up when the time comes. Final note: I searched the Web and only found a couple of English reviews on the DP3, one reviewer raved about the great sound quality, yet another negatively comment on it...for me, for the money, it’s simply top notch!
