Will this hold magnets?

I was surprised to find that this alloy does hold magnets. Those who are saying "it's stainless so it's not magnetic" don't have enough knowledge to be answering so authoritatively.

Is this coated with anything? I'd like to etch it with Ferric Chloride.

This piece of metal is very clean and un coated. One side has a peel off membrane.
