When a Duke Loves a Woman

FINAL DECISION: I absolutely adored Thorne in this book. He is kind and a true gentleman. Gillie is fierce, strong and independent but caring. And I've lost track of the times that Heath has brought me to tears in one of her books -- including this one. THE STORY: Antony Coventry, Duke of Thornley had an extraordinarily bad day. Left at the altar by his bride, Thorne goes searching for her in Whitechapel and finds himself robbed and left for dead. Gillie Trewlove comes across the seriously injured stranger near her tavern and finds herself responsible for nursing him back to health. She also ends up agreeing to help Thorne search for his runaway bride. As the two search, the connection between Thorne and Gillie grows. But these are two people who cannot live in the other's world no matter how much they may want to. OPINION: I absolutely loved Thorne in this book. He is such a fine man. From the moment he meets Gillie, he finds his worldview changing, but he is always respectful and kind to those around him. I just love a guy who is willing to turn his world around for the woman he loves. At every stage in this book, Gillie is important to him. He respects her. He wants to understand her. And he puts her above his own wants and needs. Absolutely loved him. Gillie is a strong and kind woman. Independent, she handles her dominant brothers and never accepts being thought of as inferior because of being female. She knows her mind and has managed to make a profession for herself as a tavern owner. Yet she has a shyness and a desire for quiet that may seem contradictory to the bright woman who manages a tavern and yet it seems completely in character. I loved these two together. Their different stations seem destined to keep them apart even though they quickly find that they want to try and bridge that distance. What I really liked is that there is not some big external bad keeping them apart, but their own expectations and the world's expectations. Heath has a way of writing that rips my heart out. Even though I KNOW there will be a happy ending, I found myself openly weeping during the story. Beautiful and tragic and such an expression of love and hopelessness. The characters, the emotion of the story and the fact that I really cared about these two make this a wonderful read that I will definitely turn to again. WORTH MENTIONING: This book sets up the next book in the series with Finn. CONNECTED BOOKS: WHEN A DUKE LOVES A WOMAN is the second book in the Sins for All Seasons series. The romance in this book is self-contained. Although there are overlapping characters in the series, this book can be read as a standalone. STAR RATING: I give this book 5 stars.

I really liked both Thorne and Gillie and I thought they were a great match for one another. Gillie was a wonderful heroine. She was badass and smart and funny and really kind. I also really liked Thorne. He was genuinely a good guy and a sweetheart. This was kind of tough for me to rate for a few reasons. The main one being, I wanted more chemistry between the hero and heroine. I’m not sure if it’s because this was a slow burn or if there was just something missing for me, but I felt the steam was a little lackluster. Basically, I liked the romance between them, but I was left wanting in the chemistry department - if that makes any sense. I mean, he calls her princess; they are pretty adorable. There were a few parts in the middle that dragged a little for me, but then I felt the ending was really rushed. Not to mention, there were several curve balls thrown in there near the end. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it just didn’t help with the odd pacing, in my opinion. Overall, I thought this was a good read and a good addition to the series. We got to see a lot more of the siblings and know more about all of them which makes me excited to continue on in the series.

I loved this book, maybe even more than the first book! Gillian "Gillie/Gil" Trewlove and Antony Coventry "Thorne", the Duke of Thornley meet when Gillie saves him from footpads outside her tavern. She tends his wounds and is stunned to realize she is attracted to him. Gillie is a very private person, abandoned and left on Ettie Trewlove's doorstep as an infant, Gillie grew up in the hard world of Whitechapel, but she has risen above that, she owns her own tavern and has no desire to marry or be bound to a man. But for the first time in her life, Gillie begins to think about what she might be giving up. Thorne is not having a good night, he was jilted at the alter by Lady Lavinia, the woman who since her birth has been destined to be his duchess. He is going to find her and learn why she fled, tips led him to Whitechapel and too much drink led him to trouble. He is set upon, robbed and nearly killed in an alley, but is saved by an angel. When he comes to, he is confused, it is a man tending him, he could have sworn it was a woman. When he wakes again, he realizes his mistake, Gillie is a woman, but her short hair and bound breasts disguise her He is attracted to her and intrigued. Once he heals and she sends him home, he returns and asks for her help to find Lavinia. He no longer wants to marry her, but he feels obligated to ensure she is alright. Gillie agrees and this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship. The more time they spend together, the more they want, but Gillie is not a part of his world, any more than he is a part of hers. But the heart wants what the heart wants and they embark on an affair. He wonders if she could possibly become a part of his world and invites her to a ball. A ball his mother planned to find him a new bride. Gillie attends but the night ends in scandal and later when Thorne comes to her, she tells him they must part ways. They spend weeks apart and Thorne is miserable, he has a duty to marry, but Gillie is the only woman he wants. An unexpected visitor calls on him and gives him advice. Advice that he wastes no time putting in to action. I loved this story, it is heartfelt, sweet, steamy and unforgettable. Thorne and Gillie are perfect for each other and are wonderful people. Thorne never tries to change Gillie and goes out of his way to make her feel special. They have a lot of obstacles keeping them apart, but in the end, love is all that matters. Sigh, I really loved this book and can't recommend it highly enough. It is the second book in the series, but it can definitely be read as a stand alone title.

Good

Absolutely loved it so much chemistry between the characters and although I could have predicted the ending I couldn’t put it down ....I laughed I cried and just kept wanting to read ......and I’m dying for next one now

A lot of love and a lot of laugh. I loved it.

Eine typische Heath Geschichte, nett und auch etwas spannend.

I go for spells when I don't read Me Heath drawn away by other series and other authors. When I return I can't remember why I ever turned to anyone else. Her writing is lush . I often have to sigh. Put the book down to simply gaze into the distance and rebel in the story. I loved this. Loved the hero and heroine. Loved the story.
