Durable Wyze v2 case, 10 month review - rainproof, windproof, sunproof

*by V***C on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on July 25, 2022*

These Wyze v2 cases are made out of a thin, durable PVC plastic material. I ran them for close to a year and they are still looking like when they came out of the box, no problems at all. Spiders love it so there always a bunch of webbing around it every few months, so that's got to be cleaned up since it gets in the way of night viewing when the web's thread is causing alerts across the camera.Since original Wyze v2's did not provide a way to mount the base to something like the frame of a window and keep the camera turned at an angle, that's where this product comes in to allow more viewing angles. The awning on the top provides some shade when the camera is out in direct sun and from rain. The casing is secure, so there is no rattling with the camera as it sits flush into it.A couple downsides are first, very thick cables will be hard to put in the case because there is limited space, so the wire needs to bend out at an awkward angle. It assumes you are using the original Wyze v2 flat white USB cable, which will work fine. Any others longer than an inch will have a hard time mounting.Second is since the case sits almost flush, there is no way to daisy chain another Wyze v2 when this is in the case, the back does not provide an option to let the USB-A cable bend out. It will need some custom cutting to accomplish that.

Working great for 3 years running (installed under eaves)

*by M***. on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on September 25, 2022*

Several of these enclosures have been installed under the eaves of building for about 3 years and worked great. Not sure if it is a testament to the quality of the camera, the enclosure, or both, but I have had zero troubles with the cameras.

Not What I Purchased the First Time - Design Change Not Good!

*by B***S on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on April 21, 2019*

I got the first 2 mounts back in February from Mrount. I ordered again from Mrount, but what was delivered was from Meinsa. I liked the design of the first 2 mounts that I received in February. The first 2 had an access hole in the back cover to allow me to easily plug and unplug the USB micro connector so that I can easily remove the camera and swap out if I choose - i.e. if it breaks. Also the hole allowed me to see the status light of the camera -- flashing yellow or the nice blue that all is good. Again I liked this design. It worked.NEW DESIGN: The mounts that I got this time in April ( a pack of 2 and a pack of 3) do not have the access hole any longer. The back of the cam mount cover has a sealed mold designed for the cable to bend down and go out another hole. Thus in this new design, you will HAVE to cable the camera FIRST, then assemble the cam mount with those little 4 screws. And once you have assembled the mount (front and back cover) with the screws, you can't unplug the cable unless you unassemble the back cover and those 4 little screws again. Maybe that doesn't sound like a big deal. Ha Ha Ha! Try doing that up on a ladder 18 ft under an eave of your 2 story house. The previous design, I could do all of the cam mount assembly (front cover and back) at a nice table, which is what you want when you are dealing with those tiny little screws. Then I would be able to go up the ladder and simply plug it in, make a drip loop, seal with a little duct tape and I am golden. Now this new design forces me to do all of this assembly in an unsafe place up on a ladder 18ft up.. Note that I have the other larger end of the USB connector and cable in the attic. So if you need to unplug the camera, you have a choice -- unassemble the mount covers with those little screws 18 ft up in the air or go into the attic, crawl though insulation, and watch my back and head for nails. Neither choice for my situation is good. And realize if you plan to pull the USB connector side of the cable through, the connector is bigger than the micro connector side and you will have to drill a LARGER hole to move the USB connector side through. My plan was to drill a small hole for the USB micro connector, go into my attic ONCE and plug it into an extension cord, and run the USB micro connector/cable through the SMALL hole. Then I would exit attic, go around to the camera mount side, up the ladder, and SIMPLY plug it in. This is exactly what I did with the PREVIOUS designed cam mount. And it worked. You CANNOT do this with this newly designed cam mount. If you don't want to do the assembly on your ladder, you will have the option to drill a LARGER hole so you can run the larger USB connector through and then you have to go into your attic to plug or unplug. I know that I don't want to do this in the heat of the summer when it is 120 degrees or more up in the attic.I don't think that the designer thought this through completely. I will look for another cam mount design or drill a hole through the back of these so I can plug in easily and see status light. Note that under my eaves, the camera is not getting pounded by rain and the plug is toward the wall. And if I want to really seal it, duct tape works great. This new design appears to be better for weather proofing, but there is still an access hole for cable to come out. The new design just moved the hole and killed easy access to easily unplug the camera. Also the cable access hole is at the bottom of the mount cover which seems like it makes sense if the camera is always mounted level. But I have a couple places where the camera and mount is pointed down. Thus the cable hole that was intended to be on the bottom is now on the side. Well that hole doesn't work too well for weather proofing in that configuration. Thus I still need a piece of duct tape. Don't worry so much about the hole, it's orientation will vary depending on the user configuration. Just make the hole easy to seal with tape.Another part of the new design is that the white cam mount is no longer all white. The underside of the hood is painted black. Also the edge of the front hole for the camera lens is painted black as well. If I wanted a black mount, I would have ordered a black mount. Now I have a white and black mount. If you have white walls and wanted the mount cover to blend in, sorry, you will see the black underside of the hood. Maybe the designer wanted the cover to look cute. I am more interested in functional. If it is supposed to be white, make it white. This issue is not a deal breaker, it is more of an annoyance for me. The company spent more money to the paint the white cover so it is partially black. Why??? More money in the design for something that I don't want. Go back to the previous design, it was better the first time.Lastly, can't you do away with the 4 little screws that are recessed deep into the cover? If you happen to strip one of those tiny screw heads, the camera is trapped by the mount cover and you will have to hacksaw the cover off to retrieve the camera. Create a design that snaps in and unsnaps or slides into place like a remote control batter cover. Get rid of the screws. The look and feel of the mount is ok. But the new design took a turn for the worse. I will not be ordering any more of these. My friends who also have these cam mount cringed when they saw what I had to go through. They will be looking for a new design too. Hopefully the designer can take this feedback constructively and make a great cam mount.
