Review: Incredible Intro Into High-Fi - In my unprofessional, beginning audiophile opinion I think these are absolutely fantastic. I don't chase trends of streamers and am actually annoyed that I thought to give these a try based off of seeing steamers wear the 990 Pros and original 770 Pros. But after years of being in the fence, I took the plunge and I love these. They are the most comfortable headphones I've worn that aren't the Sony XM5's. Even then, I can wear these longer than I can wear those. I wanted headphones that would be good for gaming with a good amount of music listening and appreciating and these just hit the spot. Coming from a gaming headset (Razer Kraken V3, Hyper X Cloud 2) I did not know how much I appreciated clear and clean sound. It was a night and day difference as you would hope and expect from a headset that is dedicated to its craft in sound and not splitting it's interests with a mic, RGB and price gouge simply because it has gaming in the name. I just don't want to go back to gaming headsets at all after this and I know it gets even better from here with Sennheiser, Hifiman and so on. I don't know why I was being so dumb with gaming headsets before. These do everything so much better if you just get your own dedicated mic (if needed) I just love how detailed these are and I get so much more out of music listening to these than I thought was possible. I'm hearing things I haven't heard before in songs I listen to multiple times a week. That being said, compared to other headphones that aren't trying to be audiophile headphones, these are probably going to sound very harsh, albeit detailed, which lines up with most of what I'd heard about these headphones before purchasing. They did sound harsh for me at least. Again I want to clarify this is all in my unprofessional opinion which I'm sure sounds juvenile to people who really know their stuff. In order to tame them a bit, I got FX Sound downloaded and messed with the EQ and since I can't shake some of the niceties of gaming headsets, turned up the bass as well in order to really get that little extra bit of immersion in Squad, STALKER, and so on. After tuning though, I just loved these even more. I was really able to warm them to a perfect for me amount. Getting a dac that is known for being warm will also help a ton I'm sure. On top of all these, these are built like tanks. I'm sure the original 770 Pro's are the same, I just got these because they're a bit newer I like the design of these more, and most importantly, I heard they were a bit less harsh and more bass-y which, I don't know if that's true, but I love everything about these, the velvet-ish earpads, weight, room they give my ears when wearing them, default sound and especially sound after light EQ'ing, even down to how they look in my office. I would happily recommend them to anyone looking for sub $200 detailed headphones for mixed use.
Review: Three Months of Music and Gaming - I normally don’t write reviews, but these are worth taking the time to talk about. For context: I’ve had the DT 770 Pro X for about 3 months. I use them for gaming, listening to music, and making music. Sound The sound quality is excellent. The treble isn’t nearly as harsh as some people make it out to be, although it is noticeable. They’re naturally fantastic for gaming and they sound great with most music too. I personally enjoy the tuning. If you’re someone who likes to EQ your headphones, you can, but I never felt like I had to. Versatility I’ve used these for both gaming and music on PC and PlayStation, and they’ve performed great on both. The PlayStation controller drives them just fine, so you don’t need an amp to enjoy them. Cord Length The included cable is definitely long. It’s perfect if you’re recording in a studio, but it can feel a bit excessive at a desk. Since the cable is removable, you can always buy a shorter one later if you decide you want it. I’d recommend trying the included cable first before spending extra money. Comfort Comfort has been excellent for me. I can wear these for hours without any issues. My ears don’t get hot like some people mention, and I don’t notice the clamp force or weight after a while. Most of the time I forget I’m even wearing them. Build Quality The build quality is outstanding. I upgraded from a pair of Turtle Beach headphones that I thought felt well made, but these are on another level. They feel much sturdier and more premium without feeling fragile. Noise Isolation For being closed-back headphones, the isolation is surprisingly good. Once I have something playing, outside noises almost disappear. I don’t hear my fan, and I can barely hear my TV behind me. Final Thoughts The first game I played with these was Rainbow Six Siege, and the difference was immediate. I could hear footsteps and other audio cues much more clearly than before. I even ended up dropping 21 eliminations that match. Single-player games are incredibly immersive, and music honestly sounds like I’m sitting in the studio with the artists. If you’re on the fence about these, I hope this review helps. They’ve been one of my favorite purchases, and I haven’t regretted buying them once.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Some things I love, some I don't...
*by L***T on August 24, 2026*

Intro: I need to remind myself that the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro X are just $230 headphones. They're not perfect, in fact I found them pretty bad out of the box. For that price, I shouldn't expect flagship quality. My number one complaint is the sound quality out of the box. Obviously this is a pretty considerable fault given that these are headphones, but with a little EQ work, they sound amazing. Why Did I buy Them? I bought the DT 770 Pro X because I wanted nice closed-back headphones that I could use at my desk without annoying other people. They're also easy to drive at only 48 ohms and they don't break the bank. I'm less concerned about someone walking away with these than I would be some of my other headphones. Methodology: At home I paired these with a Teac UD-505 doing DAC duty, feeding a Schiit Mjölnir pure Class A amp. At work I paired them with a Topping DX5 II. The Teac has no real tone controls and I don't have any active on my iPhone. The Topping has a ton of options from EQ settings to DSP room simulations, etc. Sound Quality: Out of the box these sound very hollow with a huge lack of mid-bass and mid-range. They have great sub-bass and it doesn't cloud the other frequencies. They also have amazing highs without being sibilant. The detail on these is absolutely shocking and sublime. They have more detail than even my flagship T1-V2, but the T1s can get a little sibilant. I know these are studio monitors, but that doesn't explain the huge lack of midrange. They aren't just flat, they are lacking in those frequencies. It's never harsh, but it doesn't sound natural. I don't know how you could mix anything with these and get an accurate representation. The Fix: If I listened to these with no tone controls, I probably would have returned them. Without EQ work, they just don't do it for me. I played around with the Topping DSP settings and the stock "Dynamic" setting really brings them to life. Suddenly the vocals have depth and soul. You still get all the astounding detail and good sub extension, but now the EQ fills in some of the frequency gaps in the midrange. With EQ work these are absolutely phenomenal cans. The detail will amaze you without ever being harsh. Comfort/Intangibles The detachable cord is nice. I wish there were an XLR balanced option, but that's not possible. Comfort is okay, but it won't win any awards. The velour pads get a little warm and they "wear heavy." They aren't heavy by themselves, but they just feel that way on your head. For instance, Meze Empyrean weigh considerably more than these, but they disappear like air on your head. Again, I remind myself that these are $230 cans, not $3k cans. I also noticed that they can be noisy sometimes. Turn your head a certain way and they squeak and groan. I didn't notice this all the time though. Sometimes they were silent. I guess it depends how I position them on my head. I fear they may get noisier as they get older. Conclusion: If you EQ these (and that's a big "if"), they are an astounding bargain for sound quality. They won't have the width and soundstage of open-back headphones, but they can easily compete with the absolute best closed cans out there. They have incredible detail without ever sounding harsh. They aren't the most comfortable, but for $230 you can't expect everything.
