The eyes are stiff, but not hard in any harmful way. **Q: how to wash this elmo?** A: We've spot cleaned it with really mild soap and water without any issue. You can put it in a pillow or laundry bag and put it through a washing machine/dryer without destroying it if it's really dirty, but you'll lose some of the softness (but I've found that happens with pretty much anything like this). **Q: Is this really a Gund Elmo? The 13" sold on amazon is said to be Gund but is not.** A: The Elmo that I received was a Gund.
