I imagine that even though it can output 85W or 60W, that it requires a 85W power source to function. The problem is that the build quality is so low that I would never trust putting 85W through this thing to my expensive MacBook. Not to mention that 85W USB-C external batteries don't yet exist. I have a Mid 2014 MacBook Pro 15" Retina and the 60W adapter worked for me with both wall charger and external battery (remember 60W or larger), but even then I can't bring myself to take the risk of long-term use with such low build quality.
