Try these before giving up on your countertop ice maker. We have owned 3 GE Opal ice makers over the years because we are addicted to the soft, chewable, nugget, ice but our city has freakishly hard water. This is why I've owned 3 of these ice makers! Mineral scale kills water using appliances quickly. I do keep up with the descaling and sanitizing but vinegar just isn't enough to prolong the life of the ice makers. Well these tablets absolutely work and even brought a seemingly dead ice maker back to life! They are very easy to use. Remove any auxillary water tanks and then drain the ice maker. Remove any water filters. Reconnect the water lines and add fresh water to the fill line. Drop one tablet into the water reservoir and wait until it has completely dissolved. It's easy to see because the tablet fizzes until it's fully dissolved. Now run the cleaning cycle. If you don't have one, just run an ice making cycle. Then drain the machine and add fresh water. Run another cleaning cycle. Repeat one more time. Then run two cycles of ice making but dispose of the ice. That's it! Do this once or twice a month, depending upon how hard your water is. (You will also need to run a plain water with a tablespoon of bleach thru occasionally but DON'T do it at the same time.) These tablets leave the inside of your ice maker clean and smooth with no mineral deposits left. The ice tastes fresher and better and it makes ice faster after a cleaning. If you have a machine that is dead or almost because of mineral scale build up - you might need to do the process twice but it's way cheaper than buying a new machine.

That said, I don't really have a reliable way to verify whether these tablets actually cleaned or descaled the machine any more effectively than just running a cycle with plain vinegar would have. There's no clear before and after indicator, no visible buildup I could point to and confirm was removed, so I'm mostly just trusting that the product did what it claims rather than having any concrete proof either way. It's a bit of an awkward product to review honestly, since unless you're doing side by side testing or have some way to measure mineral buildup or bacteria levels, you're kind of just taking it on faith that it's working as intended. Ease of use gets a pass, no complaints there, the tablets dissolved fully and the process was simple. I just can't confidently say whether this is genuinely more effective than a cheaper, more common alternative like vinegar, since I have no real benchmark to compare results against.

Amazing results! I have cleaned my countertop icemaker as described by the manufacturer, but there was still a residue even from the bottled water I purchase and use when making ice. This item worked the first time which was astounding to me after all the buildup as I figured it would take at least two rounds before I could then maintain. Amazing product!
