Fit perfect. Installed in minutes. It's heavy metal not cheap Ford plastic. Should last for the remaining life of the truck and the for years after at the wrecking yard. I highly recommend this handle.

Owning an older Ford Ranger turns out to be a series of tailgate latch handles. This handle, being made of metal, gives me hope that I will not have to deal with a replacement for some time. The product appears to be of good quality and is not that much more expensive than the quality parts offered (in plastic) at the local parts store. Only time will tell about the durability.

I purchased this handle for my 2009 Ford Ranger because after an original (plastic) door handle snapped in two on a cold winter day I replaced it with a metal one and then decided to replace the passenger side with metal as well. They feel so solid and the action on them is so much better than the original I decided to get a metal handle for the rear tailgate as well. The item arrived on time, in good condition and it wasn't very hard to install. This one also has a good solid smooth feel to it when it's in use. I recommend it highly, but a word of caution. Though this is an exact plug and play replacement, if you (as I do) have a "pop & lock" PL 2310 manual tailgate lock mounted to your tailgate latch handle this replacement is not compatible with that lock. The pop & lock mechanism functions with the use of a blocker which presses into one of the handle rod eyelet slots and these slots are not replicated on this metal handle version making it incompatible for use with the Pop & Lock. I was able to use a Dremel tool and the right bits to create the groove in my metal handle if you're willing to do the same then I recommend it but, if you're not willing to modify the handle and take a chance on ruining it, I wouldn't purchase this item. I've included a couple of photos showing a flat screwdriver blade being inserted into the slot that I'm talking about on the original plastic handle. Now after modifying mine and making it work I'm very happy with the metal handle. It has a much more secure feel and smoothness of operation. And when engaging the pop &lock, it feels much more securely locked than it did with the plastic handle. So, there you have it, for what it's worth. I hope this helps.

The original latch was plastic and broke. The replacement was plastic and only lasted a matter of weeks. This one is metal and I hold high hopes for it. Much better.
