This is a really nice microscope
I bought this for two granddaughters 8 and 5 and they really like it. It is heavy and feels and looks like good quality of materials and construction. Two things I did not like. One is the tiny screws that hold the two eyepieces in place are VERY small and you need a small Phillips screwdriver to remove them. Probably don't have to fully remove the tiny screws to swap eyepieces but I did and I dropped one. If you do drop one and it hits the carpet get a flashlight and start crawling to find it as they are really tiny. So tiny they would never be a choking hazard for anyone. There is no normal manual that comes with this and I read where you can download a manual online. Problem there is I can't find the model number of the scope I purchased or a website to try and get lucky looking for a manual. I have e-mailed the seller asking them for the information which I expect to hear back from. There is what looks like a wrench included and I can't find any place it would be used.As for basic use that is great and really easy. With just one simply instruction we had the 5 year old placing objects on the specimen plate and then looking through the eyepiece and turning the knob to focus it. It really is a piece of cake to operate. They looked at some of the candy they had just purchased and saw that it looked ugly at 40X and it was almost pure sugar. Amazingly they didn't like what they were eating any more. How can you not love that? For basic use the manual really isn't necessary but I thought there may be some other insightful information about ways of using it.I would have given this 5 stars except for the tiny screws and no real manual. I am going to try and find a couple of screws with a knurled head to use instead of the screws provided. They are so small it makes it difficult to swap the 10X and 20X lens that they probably won't ever swap them unless they really have to for a school project. In a month or so I am planning on buying one of the camera's you can hook up to your laptop so they can capture what they see on screen for school work.

Excellent buy for the scientifically curious!
The OMAX Microscope is totally worth it! Since it has arrived I've been impressed with the clarity and detail of all sorts of field specimens -- particularly rocks! The microscope arrived in sound packaging and it's contents were all secure. The microscope was shipped almost immediately and got to NY pretty quick too. Everything in the product picture comes with it, albeit if you're looking to get into it as a hobby I would recommend buying a petri dish or transparent slides to accommodate. You can look at saline water and other cool stuff under the microscope if you have the bottom light on instead of the top one. The top one I use for 3d objects like rock samples. I'm impressed by the depth of magnification. You place an object on the stage and manipulate it with a small knife and everything looks so much more dramatic through the lens than if you take a step back and witness the small and seemingly trivial effect you're having on what appeared to be a large object. 40x magnification with the 10wf is pretty legitimate, the 20wf is overkill. It's cool all the same. In summary the OMAX microscope exceeded my expectations and has a very professional feel. Given the price and a natural enthusiasm for science I'm glad I got this scope!

Alas, the light.
The microscope seems to be very well made. Unfortunately, the lighting circuitry (the external jack/plug, I never intended to use the batteries anyway) was faulty, with any movement of the wire/plug the light flickered, went out, came on, went out, etc etc. Cleaning didn't help. I'm moderately handy with electrical stuff, but the way this thing is wired made it impossible to replace the jack without major surgery. I hate to return anything, but for a hundred and sixty-nine bucks it's not unreasonable, I think, to expect it to work. Made in China, of course.

Awesome microscope
This is an excellent microscope. I use it mainly for coin collecting. The details that it provides are exceptionally clear. The nice feature of this microscope is that ithe can be used for speciman samples as well because it has 2 different lighting systems. This microscope is very value oriented for the many uses that it can accommodate. It can also be fitted for other attachments as well. As a coin collector I can purchase an LCD camera which can take awesome photos of my coin collection. If you want a value priced all around microscope then this will fit your budget and expectations.

A Good Deal
Good luck finding a better scope for the price. The optics are fine. The whole outfit is just a little small, the viewing field a little narrow. But that's absolutely fine for beginners.

High quality. Much bang for the bucks!
Very high quality, large, wide stereo image. I have been wanting a stereo microscope/magnifier for ages. This one is all metal construction with crisp, clear optics. I have a box of specimens from the back yard on hand to wow visitors with. I also have a petri dish in which I "brew" critters. It is very easy to observe one-cell creatures (paramecium, amoeba, etc.) swimming about. From coins down to single-cell critters - pretty impressive, I say.
