They are set in at an angle. I am very pleased with mine. I am going to get one for my shop as well.

It will hold a 12x12 but it will hang over the edge. The shelf is only 8.5" from the back to the front. But the shelf is 12+ inches wide from side to side.

Are the sides open or closed?

Ths sides are open and the back is closed.

Will it hold 10x16 bags?

Largest would be 9x12 envelope or media bag
