I bought 3 of these, compared them to each other for accuracy in temp and humidity and gave detailed results. Overall summary is, 2 of the units were pretty good with both humidity & temp accuracy (most likely acceptable for most people's use), the 3rd monitor was not. It's a crap shoot as far as getting one that's in the satisfactory range of accuracy for both readings, I think. **Q: I'd like to know if it also makes the measurement in degree celsius.** A: No it doesn't :( celsius x 9/5 + 32 **Q: does the unit have a backlight? Thanks** A: ASSUMING THEY HAS BACK LIGHT -I BOUGHT 3, A FLASHLIGHT IN A NECESSITY AT NIGHT, AND THEY MAKE CUTE PAPER WEIGHTS!!!!! **Q: Does the HIGH/LOW reset automatically? I need one that doesn't reset until I reset it.** A: It uses three 12 hour time blocks (36 total hours) per the 7/19/16 response and automatically resets. This screws up being able to determine the 24 hour hi-lo I was used to with another model. I much prefer the one that auto resets every 24 hours from battery insertion. On the latter, by inserting the batteries at midnight, a daily hi-lo was always available. It has worked perfectly for a few years; a great purchase for a low cost. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Overall it does what its supposed to, but there are a few complaints... *by E***. on May 19, 2015* OVERVIEW --------------- I purchased this humidity monitor to use in conjunction with my evap cooler (aka swamp cooler). As I live in the southeast region of the US, the humidity levels tend to fluctuate quite a bit and I wanted to keep my eye on it as I'm using the cooler in a room with electronics. The humidity monitor features a "realtime" humidity percentage in large print along with a house-shaped design that displays either "High", OK", or "Low" to make it easy to see how humid the room is without needing to know exact percentages. Below the main humidity indicator is the Low and High humidity percentages, as well as ambient temperature (which can be changed between F and C) which also has the range high and low beneath it. After using the AcuRite for a few days, I can say that the unit does what its supposed to, however there were a few things that could be changed for the better: ISSUES ----------- The biggest complaint about the humidity monitor is that it does NOT come with a battery. The device takes 1x AA, which would not have cost much to include. Even a cheap battery is better than none, and it makes it quite inconvenient to have to purchase a pack of batteries just to use 1 for the device. They do state that a battery isn't included on the listing, however I'm sure most overlook this. Another complaint is that there is no glow/light function, which makes it quite difficult to see with the lights off. Not a huge deal, but still it would have made the device that much better. Furthermore, the device comes with a clip on the back very similar to how a beeper/pager clipped on. Behind the clip is a little metal piece that can be used to place the device upright on a table. This metal clip is prone to falling off as it is secured only by its own tension. There have been a few times where I've accidentally touched the device and the clip snapped closed, causing the device to fall off the table. I'd suggest clipping the unit on something if possible rather than standing it up. The metal clip also has a magnet on the back in case you want to stick it on something metal such as a refrigerator. Lastly, the device seems to have all of its sensors on just one side (rear right side) which could skew the readings based on the positioning of the reader. It seems that there have been a few purchasers who have drilled more holes into the device in order to have a more accurate reading, however I checked the humidity levels with another device and the readings were only off by 2%. Unless you're needing a highly accurate humidity gauge, this shouldn't be that big of an issue. FINAL THOUGHTS -------------------------- The AcuRite humidity monitor does exactly what its supposed to, and as a bonus, includes the ambient temperature. Overall, the devices is easy to use and is easy to read as long as there is a light source to read it with. There are some flaws with the device as described above, however I gave a score of 4 stars due to the price and the fact that the device does function as described. There is room for improvement, however if you're just needing a decently accurate device to display humidity and/or temperature in a room, the AcuRite should work just fine for you.
