This version of Windows fits the bill. I'm running it with no frills on the 32 GB partition (so I can read files when I am in the Mac environment). It does take up a good chunk of the drive, but I know Windows 7 would have never made it. Vista is familiar to those of us used to the older Windows 95/98/XP interface, and all of the software out there is still quite functional on Vista. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars This $40 purchase saved me over $1600 by achieving essential backwards compatibility that 8 and 10 didn't have. *by O***O on Reviewed in the United States on July 22, 2016* When XP made way for Vista, I had a bad time adjusting and hated the clunky new interface a lot. But we all had to put up with it, those lucky enough to be able to keep XP did so and avoided this one. It was 2015 and I bought a brand new machine with Win 8.1 on it and it was also a dedicated Win 8 machine with lots of bios lockdowns. However well it ran, there were now unsupported programs on my machine that I needed: they were my worktools. And by mid 2016 there still hadn't been any fixes. I would have to either buy an old machine to replace my new one or somehow buy new versions of my software for around $1600 or a monthly subscription that was like a car payment. the other way was to somehow circumvent the locked boot system and Win 8. So I went dual boot (it took me a whole week of evenings to get right and I had to research like a maniac) but I got myself free of the dedicated part of the machine and got Ubuntu 16 running very very well. This then showed me I could replace the system. However, once free, I needed to get Win Vista (this purchase) on, and this needed a total wipe. When windows Vista had gone on, got to download SP2 which was essential. AND, cheekily, many of the ASUS drivers worked for the LAN, Card Reader and USB ports despite there being no recognised compatibility. Needless to say, my old software is working beautifully again, it was a nightmare to achieve and I never would have thought I'd have been thrilled to see Vista, but I was...I'd saved some irreplaceable stuff and my $40 purchase saved me $1600 and really quite a lot more too with other wares. Vista is what it is, clunky and not very ductile. But it works, and reliably. The machine will not be connected to the internet. Updates are turned OFF.
