I've tried both freehand slicing, and the popular bamboo slicing guides you'll find on amazon. I don't like the bamboo one at all. It splinters, the wood gets cut up with every slice (not just the bottom but the actual slats/guides too), it's slow and imprecise, it slides around all over the place. It's also a paint to wash with numerous parts, and just all around an unpleasant experience.This....I'm assuming this is a knock-off of the zassenhaus, which is imo way overpriced. Like even $200 imo is a lot for what it is imo, but it's a lot better than $400! I'm glad I decided to try one though, and I think if you bake enough bread (or even just buy your bread as whole loaves) that this is an incredibly worthwhile investment! I should have bought one ages ago!I love how fast and easy it is to slice, how easy it is to select the size of your slices, how precise it is, how fast and easy it is to clean, and imo how safe it is compared to an electric slicer! Obviously you can still cut yourself with this, but at least with a manual slicer if you do start cutting yourself, it'll happen slowly and you can stop before it goes too deep or you just lose a piece of your finger entirely!This produces such nice, perfect slices! It's actually rather fun to use!
