From the expansive universe of Dune, created by acclaimed author Frank Herbert, and 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides, DUNE: PROPHECY follows two Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit. DUNE: PROPHECY is inspired by the novel SISTERHOOD OF DUNE, written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. Review: A worthy prequel to the Dune series, about the origins of "The Sisterhood" - Love this series - a worthy prequel to the Dune series, about the early origins of the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood. It tells you how it started, as well as some of the origins of the Atreides/Harkonnen Feud. And it LOOKS spectacular - scenes around the Imperial mansion are a magnificent setting that looks VERY real ( even though CGI-enhanced.) Lots of scheming, plans, and counter-plans, mixed with a little spiritual mystery involving Arrakis and the worms & Spice. Review: "Sisterhood above all"! - A fantastic series! Can't wait for next season. If you are a DUNE fan then you will be somewhat surprised at how well thought out this was written and conceived. Great performances by the cast and very interesting!

Excellent Primer
I've been a Dune freak since it was require reading in my Problems in American Democracy class in high school in 1970, this is fantastic in that it fleshs out the back story so events in Paul Atradies time make sense. The story sticks pretty close to the world building Frank Herbert and his son Brian have done. Background on the Bene Jeserit and their rule bending single minded pursuit of the breading program is invaluable. The origins of the Atradies Harkonen fued gives the rivalry a better perspective into the Dune universe.

Engaging prequel to Frank Herbert and Denis Villeneuve's Dune Universe; the nascent Bene Gesserit.
This is a well made and acted prequel mini-series to the Dune Universe of Frank Herbert and Denis Villeneuve. About a century after the Butlerian anti=thinking machine jihad and10,0000 years prior to the events and life of Paul Atreides, court intrigues abound, spoiled and decadent nobles plot, a mysterious stranger with unsuspected origin enters and the efforts of two deeply troubled Harkonnen sisters to rewrite family history and control the nascent Bene Gesserit Sisterhood begin. Some nice surprises and twists. Very good performances, good costumes, music and cinematography, but not quite the production level of a motion picture, obviously, some redressing of previously used sets and a little corner cutting but a fascinating tale. I am surprised how little technology has changed in 10,000 years of Dune history, all the work horse spaceships, suspensors, shields and codes of conduct are already in place. Overall, even darker in tone than Dune itself. Recommended and I eagerly await more.

A really good series. The VOICE the Bene Gesserit used in this series was frightening. I hope this series goes on. A+

Vastly underrated. Does the Dune Universe Justice.
I went into Dune: Prophecy with modest expectations, partly because it draws inspiration from the Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson prequel era (especially Sisterhood of Dune), and that style of writing is not my personal favorite. But the series surprised me in the best way. To my taste, the adaptation takes the strongest ingredients from that material and reshapes them into something that fits television: character-forward, politically tense, and steeped in the feeling of long memory and long consequence that defines the Dune universe. It doesn't have the cinematic grandiosity of the movies, but I never expected it to. Despite its occasional flaw, I found it genuinely compelling. In some respects (especially the interpersonal maneuvering and the slow-burn power dynamics that take center stage in Frank's work) I ended up enjoying it as much as the recent films, and felt more connected to the characters in many instances. Denis's vision for the movies was phenomenal, but I realize now for all his artistry and gorgeous world-building, there was something that Dune prophecy did slightly better: there was more human connection in Prophecy, and more of the signature Herbert 'plans within plans within plans' intrigue and strategy. It wasn't perfect, but you got to see a hell of a lot more of it in this series than you do anywhere else. Denis Villeneuve’s movies helped renew mainstream excitement for Dune on screen, and even though he did not end up directing the series (he gave them a lot of resources to use for the project, which led to a lot of consistency with the movie), I like that the show builds on the current momentum while clearly trying to be its own thing. In my view, it has completely succeeded and I can't wait for more. Flaws notwithstanding, it was definitely an excellent addition to the Dune universe.
