In a nutshell, the Uniden gets an A+, the Rad450 a B+. Of course the uniden is twice as expensive so it should be better. But The RAD450 performed quite admirable for it's price. It is not quite as sensative as the uniden facing forward. For cops coming from the behind, the uniden definitely seems more effective. It takes awhile to figure out what is the best settings for these units. Both of their directions are decent but could be better. If you want to just set it and forget it use #5 for the uniden and #6 for the RAD450. The "quite ride" for the uniden works with the GPS speed. on the unit No sound below a certain speed. This works perfectly for filtering out useless parking lot and stop light false alerts. Because the uniden can also mute specific locations it is even more versatile for filtering falsie's. I did not use this in any of my tests. Because the RAD450 doesn't have GPS, it's "quite ride" works differently. An audio will sound for a few seconds (2 or 3 beeps) then go silent. If it doesn't have a 30-40 second space between alerts, it will remain silent even if it gets a new alert (it will always display the alert). This works quite well for parking lots since you are getting many multiple alerts rapidly. Yet, this shouldn't be a problem while driving highway or city. In the driving test below I had all kinds of falsie's on the old radar including the blind spot radars used on cars. While following a Chevy equinox on the highway, my old unit cycled on and off continuously while behind this car. Both the uniden and RAD450 were totally silent. They didn't register any alerts. Other cars caused the same thing in my old unit but I couldn't identify which car was the source. The other 2 units remained silent. I was fortunate that the day of testing, Cops were everywhere so I got good data. I didn't get the actual distance on the city speeding trap, but both the Uniden and RAD450 were equal distances and gave enough warning to slow down. The old unit gave maybe enough warning. In summary, the uniden is a terrific unit. Spending anymore I think is a waste of money. If you can't afford the $250 price tag, the RAD450 is a pretty good unit and option. Anything cheaper than the RAD450 will most likely behave just like my old 7000 which is rendered useless due to falsie's. Also, as an aside note, the "intellimute" option on the RAD450 does not work on a 2004 Lexus rx330. Supposedly, the unit can tell the RPM of the engine through voltage spikes in the electrical system. My guess is that it won't be able to read most cars so don't count on this as a useful filter option. Regardless,The RAD450 works well enough for the price. So, I am keeping both; The uniden for my main car, and the RAD450 for my second car. I should be well protected in both less all those annoying falsies! Hope this review helps. With all the damn speed cameras in Chicago, this is a MUST OWN. Plus it's saved me a few speeding tickets. Worth every dollar. The quality of this radar detector cannot be understated. I spent weeks researching this off rdforums.org. Guys there go and buy police issue speed detection equipment then test out radar detectors an a obstetrical course. So you get unbiased raw data with plenty of things to learn about owning a radar detector and how to understand the readings. I highly recommend going there and spending sometime to understand it as it' lot more detailed than you'd think. On open interstates, the distance it will pick up signals is ridiculous. You see police long... before they know you're coming. Local highways is a life saver especially if your local expressway tends to double as the daytona classic. Local suburbs and city it does surprisingly well. About false readings -- K band in general can be a mixed bag. Automated doors at grocery stores, walgreens, and hotels will all set it off. You don't want to disable it as some cities still may use a mix of KA and K band. Knowing this you tend to mute those points as you do get 100 mute points which will save it from chirping when you're on your home turf. This does not auto mute these points like the $600+ units with slightly better detection. However, having the mute function on the power cord makes it nice and convenient. As for mounting this? I don't like the mount kit they give with this. Grab a sticky pad (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01552AYD0/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_5) and just lay it on it. Works great. Even if I had to do some sudden breaking, does not move an inch.

At first when I set up my radar detector, it was constantly dinging with false detection. After this first drive I looked up what settings to change and I found it was mostly k band (collision detection, automatic doors) and I set all bands to narrow. I also put it on city mode no matter what. It is quick to catch radars around a mile down the road. It is very accurate with some false k bands even with different settings. I find that setting the volume between 2-4 is usually fine and maybe turn on auto mute. It has saved me from tickets when the police are hiding. It comes with the power cord and equipment to mount it on the windshield and to put it on the dash. Some people say it's bulky, but if you put it near the middle of the windshield it shouldn't obstruct your view.

I bought this radar Detector after looking at plenty of reviews for the best budget radar detector that still performs well. So far so good I’ve completely turned off x and k band. The gps lockouts work well but k band keeps freaking out even with filters on so I just decided to turn it off maybe turn it back on when on the highway or freeway I do keep the device in highway mode I’d like to have the best range possible which could be why I get a lot of k band alerts around town. Ka and laser and red light cameras detection are on . I haven’t had this unit for a long enough time to go into deep detail but some cops have there radar on and some will not if not you will not know they are there until u physically see them . This morning I got a hard hitting Ka band alert I didn’t see a cop until about a mile down the road which was a Chp Officer on the side of the freeway I would have been able to slow down if necessary was only going about 75 the speed limit is 65 there was heavy traffic so wasn’t to worried. All in all it’s a great detector I’d recommend if you live in Cali to get this detector and just turn k and x band off and anytime ka pops up you know it’s a cop. Some school cops and older vehicles here do sometimes still use k band but it’s very rare like I said u can just turn it back on when on highway if need be but up to you.
