Review: Brilliant Sound, Disappointing ANC - The Focal Bathys are great-sounding headphones — genuinely impressive, and even better once you EQ them to the Harman curve. The clarity and detail are excellent, making them a joy to listen to in the right environment. DAC mode is also fantastic. Connected via USB-C, the internal DAC delivers clean, powerful audio that easily rivals many wired setups. Contrary to what I initially thought, ANC does still function in DAC mode — it’s actually the Transparency Mode that gets disabled. Either way, the audio quality in this mode is stellar. Comfort-wise, I was able to wear them for hours. However, with my larger ears, I did start to feel pressure and aching at the top corners of the ear cups after extended use. They’re well-built and generally comfortable, but may not suit everyone’s ear shape. The biggest letdown is the ANC. On a plane, they simply didn’t block out enough noise to justify being called premium noise-cancelling headphones. For that, Bose and Sony still lead the pack by quite a margin. If you’re at home in a quiet setting, the Bathys are brilliant. But if you’re travelling or commuting and expecting best-in-class ANC, you’ll be disappointed. And if you’re not after ANC at all? There are plenty of audiophile headphones that will pancake these in terms of pure sound quality — often at a lower price. In the end, I returned them. The Bathys are excellent in many ways, but they’re marketed as ANC headphones — and on that front, they just don’t cut the mustard.

The Focal Bathys are great-sounding headphones — genuinely impressive, and even better once you EQ them to the Harman curve. The clarity and detail are excellent, making them a joy to listen to in the right environment. DAC mode is also fantastic. Connected via USB-C, the internal DAC delivers clean, powerful audio that easily rivals many wired setups. Contrary to what I initially thought, ANC does still function in DAC mode — it’s actually the Transparency Mode that gets disabled. Either way, the audio quality in this mode is stellar. Comfort-wise, I was able to wear them for hours. However, with my larger ears, I did start to feel pressure and aching at the top corners of the ear cups after extended use. They’re well-built and generally comfortable, but may not suit everyone’s ear shape. The biggest letdown is the ANC. On a plane, they simply didn’t block out enough noise to justify being called premium noise-cancelling headphones. For that, Bose and Sony still lead the pack by quite a margin. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Nicht perfekt aber mit Stärken

Ein Kopfhörer mit Höhen und Tiefen! Pro: der Klang hat etwas sehr delikates, auch wenn es trotzdem Kopfhörerklang bleibt und damit Musik nie echt losgelöst von der Klangquelle erscheint wie bei guten Boxen. Der Bathys löst herausragend gut auf, ist lebendig, räumlich, der Bass ist fett und warm und trotzdem unglaublich detailliert und präzise, und der Hochton hat irgendwie diesen Schmelz. Sehr impulsiver und spielfreudiger Klang. Ebenfalls ein fettes Plus: die Optik ist ein echter Hingucker, damit fällt man auf. Ich mag diese Hingabe und Extravaganz. Fast jeder Kopfhörer in dieser Preisklasse setzt so oder so ein Statement in puncto Design, und die meisten gefallen mir eben schlechter als der Bathys. Das gelochte Metall mit seiner Form, die ein wenig an eine sich drehende Galaxie erinnert und in der Mitte prangt das geheimnisvolle indirekt beleuchtete Logo. Viel mehr Style geht nicht. Damit zieht man schon den einen oder anderen Blick auf sich. Ebenfalls gut: telefonieren. Geht sehr viel besser als mit allen Kopfhörer die ich zuvor hatte! Tragekomfort: wie man es erwarten würde. Definitiv nichts, wo der Bathys enttäuscht, sehr sehr bequem, obwohl er schwer ist, man kann im Sommer etwas darunter schwitzen aber wer schwitzt nicht eh im Sommer. Kein Grund nein zu sagen, falls man besseren Klang und tolles Design schätzt. Mittelmäßig: das ANC. Eigentlich schirmt der Bathys nicht wirklich ab, jeder in-ear mit mittelmäßigem ANC ist deutlich besser für ein Bruchteil des Geldes. Reicht trotzdem aus, um jederzeit maximal abschalten zu können, finde ich. Im Transparenzmodus rauscht es. Und die durchgereichten Umgebungsgeräusche klingen gepitcht, nicht echt. Wenn man einfach vergisst, dass man vom silent-modus wegschalten sollte, passt es, ich meine, wer setzt auch solche fetten Kopfhörer nicht ab, wenn er was von der Umgebung hören will, man hat ja nachts auch keine Sonnenbrille auf. Edit: ich habe mir heute ein neuen PC zugelegt mit Bluetooth 5.4 Standard und seitdem hat Bluetooth locker eine Reichweite von 4-5 Metern Minimum wo es ohne Abbrüche funktioniert! Mit meinem alten PC gab es da starke Probleme, nicht aber mit dem Handy. Und mit dem neuen PC auch nicht mehr, sehr edel! Das gibt ein Upgrade auf 5 Sterne.
