how long is the chain, have a very high ceiling and need to know if it will reach the ground.

I have it hanging on a chain in a tree. From that chain to the ground is 10 feet 4 inches. fully down the chain hook is 11 inches from the ground. so that would be around 9 foot 10 inches from top to bottom Hope that helps.

Can I attach the top hook to a support bar that may be 2" in diameter. If not, what is the largest support bar the hoist can work with?

Best I can tell is 1 inch is about it. But like the other responder said, wrap a piece of chain around your 2 inch bar and hang the hook on that. The hoist is a good product for the money. I like mine. I use it for lifting 55 gal water barrels off the back of my truck.
