Guide Blocks blade guides are made from non-metallic composite material, impregnated phenolic laminate which contains three synthetic dry lubricants that lubricate the blade but do not make it oily. The metal to metal contact made by old metal guide blocks creates heat and friction which cause premature blade wear and breakage. Be careful how much you tighten the set screws, they are not made of steel. It does say this in the instructions that come with the products. I just wish I had know in advance so I could have purchased some very aggressive sandpaper to sand them down. It takes very agressive abrasive to cut this material in less than an hour of manual sanding - PER block. Once sized and installed, the blocks work great, and run very quiet.
