Perfect dictionary for students.

I love it

I first saw this book in the hands of a Korean person and he was able to learn quickly the basics of English, everything was so well explained and I knew it would be useful to have a copy. I would recommend it to anyone :)

I bought this because I believed that purchase included the online app as well which give audio pronunciation references, which is what I really need. However, I can't access the app, so I have ended up with an extra print dictionary which is not what I thought I was buying.

Impeccable as far as layout is concerned (good Longman's job this time), supplied with basic synonyms and collocations but... Previous editions were simply better, contained more derivative forms, some definitions were better. If you want to buy one, consider an older edition.

この Active Study Dictionary は３版から使用しています。改訂のたびに良くなっていると感じています。 旧版である４版から本自体の大きさは変わらず、ページ数が１７１増えています。収録語数も、正確に数え ていませんが、語の増減を含めて２５０語程度多くなっているようです。最も大きな違いは、signposts （語句案内標識）の採用等、Dictionary of Contemporary English と同様な形態に合わせたことです。 語の説明や例文は旧版と変わりませんが、フレーズや句動詞をまとめて配置してあり見やすくなっています。 また、コロケーションや類語を旧版より充実させ、それを別枠で囲むことでよりわかりやすくなっています。 私は主として Dictionary of Contemporary English を使用していますが、Active Study Dictionary は語 の説明が簡潔な為、語句によっては、かえって Dictionary of Contemporary English よりもわかりやすい 説明だと思えることも多々あります。 英和辞典での日本語訳が今一つしっくりこない経験は、私を含め誰にでもあると思います。 語の本来の意味を調べる際に、英英辞典は役立ちます。コンパクトであり収録語数（辞書の裏面にはいろい ろと数字が記載されていますが、実際は、見出し語＋派生語で、25,000語程度のようです。）においても 大学入試やTOEICに十分対応可能だと思います。お勧めの英英辞典です。 なお、収録語数が同様なオックスフォードの Wordpower Dictionary もありますが Active Study Dictionary５版のほうが、コロケーション、類語が多く、語の配置の見やすさ、カラー印刷等もあり、こち らを推奨致します。

This dictionary is very helpful for everyone who is learning English as a foreign language. Everybody( even children) will find there a lots of meaning of the same word.

Tolles Wörterbuch, verständlich erklärt, schön bebildert, sehr zu empfehlen. Verwende es für mein "privates" Englischstudium, wollte neben dem Englisch-Deutsch, Deutsch-Englisch-Wörterbuch auch ein rein englisches haben und wurde nicht enttäuscht!
