If you have a Subaru and want your car the last, you need these filters. Todays US dealerships are selling rebranded FRAM filters which are not the best for your vehicle. Do some research and you’ll see what I’m talking about. The filters I bought are indeed what I was looking for. To identify a real OEM filter, there are a few things to look out for. Real Subaru of Japan filters will have the part number printed on the box, not a sticker. The glue on the top of the box will be dotted in two rows as seen in my pictures. On the filter itself, the plastic wrap will only cover the bottom, not the whole filter and a small punch in the middle of the wrapper will also be present. Most importantly it will be black and not blue. If you have a Subaru filter that does not match these details, it’s a fake and I’d return that before putting it on your vehicle. Now why is this so important? These filters are a much higher quality than the ones manufactured for US dealerships. Most are selling the blue ones which are rebranded FRAM filters and are extremely low quality. They also don’t provide the correct oil pressure your vehicle requires to last. If you’re looking for a new oil filter, these are what you need and these are what came on your vehicle when it rolled off the line in the Japan manufacturing lines. If you’re looking for a genuine filter for your Outback from Japan then you’ve found it. I’ve used these in 2 oil changes now with no flow issues in my 23’ OBW. They fit and seal perfectly. They are obviously authentic as they have the 8 dots of glue that Tokyo Roki uses to seal the filter box. Great purchase if this is what you’re looking for

A few reviewers have stated they received the Made-in-Indonesia filter instead of the Japanese version. I honestly expected the Indonesian filter, since I understand the Japanese filters are hard to come by in the US now. However, the filter delivered was the genuine Japanese filter.

It was not made in Japan, was sourced from Indonesia. But it is an OEM part and should do the job!

Did the trick! Was happy to receive the “Made in Japan” instead of Indonesia. Fingers crossed when I order again it’ll be the same.

I’ve ordered this same filter from this listing almost a dozen times. All have been Japan made up until now. Amazon has done a bait a switch supplying the inferior Indonesian made filter. Previous sellers that supplied the japan made filter were 3rd party.

I don't know where else to buy these Genuine Subaru Oil Filters other than here on Amazon. There are so many copies of this filter that are lower quality and not OEM. My mechanic told me to ALWAYS use these original filters to avoid problems with the Boxer motor in my wife's car. They have to say "MADE IN JAPAN" on the box. The only other place I have seen these filters sold is at the dealership where they want $40 for the same exact filter. This is a far better value at $15.29 each!
