Model Railway Software: Stecotec Model Railroad Collector Pro - Inventory Program - Collection Management for Rolling Stock and Accessories (suitable for Hornby, Bachmann, Dapol, OO, N gauge etc.)

A very good and easy to use software, the only problems are, 1)it was originally a German product and some headings have not been translated, 2)some of the jargon that has been translated is to American jargon. neither are major and can be resolved by the context.

Once the seller advised how to sort alphabetically, it made the program easier to use.

The Stecotec Model Railroad Collector Pro - Inventory Program is a software that allows me capture my train collection. The software has tutorial instructions, which are very helpful. There is still some room to make this more user friendly, specifically to establishing “relationships” to the individual train cars / accessories. There is also the softwares locked capture of the types of train car descriptions that I would like to add to but you are confined to the softwares types. This software replaces an older collection software that I found easier to manage but became corrupted. I’m learning how to use this software as I go and have logged about 40 train cars to date. The output data is starting to shape up for my collection and values.

When my wife and I decided to switch from O scale to G scale modeling, we got rid of all our old trains, and started collecting new ones. Instead of trying to patch together another Excel spreadsheet, or build an Access database, I looked around for pre-built software, and settled on this one. I purchased the CD and it was promptly shipped from Germany, taking a little over a week to arrive. Most of the time was spent getting it through customs according to the tracking number! This software is very flexible, with most field values coming pre-canned. Since it was created in Germany, it comes preset for European weights and measures, but they are easily changed for U.S. equivalents. The ability to add fields to the database is very useful since it allows you to customize the software just the way you want it. You add company names (railroads, manufacturers, dealers, etc.) and people names so that you can get a precise as you'd like in when, where, and who you bought the item from, as well as cost. It does not come pre-canned with the value of a particular piece (way too many out there) but it does have the fields to allow you to input that information if you want to delve that deep. You can track where the item is stored, who you've leant it to, whether you've sold it, etc. It's also not just for train equipment, but also for buildings, track, accessories, you name it, and it's for all scales of modeling. It even has fields to input information about the prototype the model was created from. I highly recommend this software if you have more than just a Christmas set that comes out once a year if for no other reason, than insurance purposes! Have fun, and enjoy the hobby!!

More info for just the ordinary train collector. Alot of items that are not needed. Might be good for a dealer.
