One of the most beautiful stories of childhood alienation and seeking to belong that I've ever read. Sadness, not despair; there's no self-indulgent nihilism to be found in these pages. This, Tekkonkinkreet, and Sunny are priceless comics about children on the margins. Matsumoto is one of the greatest.
