Distinctive two chamber discordant sound. Review: I LOVE this whistle! - I LOVE the sound of this whistle! If you like the sound of a British Police whistle, this is it. It has a mellow tone and can be blown louder to get more attention. But it's not super loud. If you're looking for a safety whistle, something that is easy to blow and and is very loud and shrill to get attention, look elsewhere. For a safety whistle, I recommend the Acme 636 Safety Whistle (I have one). The 636 is smaller, louder, and less expensive. If you like the look and feel of a Acme police whistle, another possibility is the Ladies version of the Acme police whistle--the engraving says "The Acme City": compared to its bigger brother, it's smaller (2 5/8" x 1/2" compared to 3 1/8" x 5/8"). It's more shrill and it's a nicer size to put on a key ring (I have one of these whistles, too!). For more than you ever wanted to know about whistles... I bought one for my wife's key chain, but couldn't bring myself to part with it so I kept it for myself. Beautiful nickel finish. Sounds just like what I heard in England when I was stationed there. It's a hi-lo dual tone. It's not terribly loud, tho --- the highest I could get was 100.8db c-weighted at 1 meter. If I want to go louder I may just get a Thunderer 58.
