Summary Commercial airline pilot Whip Whitaker (Denzel Washington) has a problem with drugs and alcohol, though so far he's managed to complete his flights safely. His luck runs out when a disastrous mechanical malfunction sends his plane hurtling toward the ground. Whip pulls off a miraculous crash-landing that results in only six lives lost. Shaken to the core, Whip vows to get sober -- but when the crash investigation exposes his addiction, he finds himself in an even worse situation. Review: Denzel Washington at his best! - An exceptional movie with Denzel Washington giving his best performance since 'The Book of Eli'. The film is well constructed, starting off by showing William 'Whip' Whittaker absolutely smashed and high off his face just before his SouthJet Flight 227 to Atlanta, which takes a perilous turn as the plane malfunctions and dives at dangerous speeds. Whip saves the day by miraculously inverting the plane and causing less of a disaster than what otherwise would've been. People may think that after the crash nothing exciting will happen, but that's not true, Flight is always gripping, and the acting is so convincing that you will find yourself digging for the characters, and worrying about their futures and the outcome of the main character. Flight is a fantastic character study of this anti-hero, who actually has a high level of blood alcohol and drugs in him before the flight, and officials and lawyers are all out after him to determine whether he's guilty or not. There's no denying here, Denzel Washington can act! His performance keeps the film flowing superbly even after the truly alarming plane sequence. Kelly Reilly is excellent too, it's good to see strong British talent showing off, and Reilly is one to watch! Don Cheadle, John Goodman, Brian Geraghty, Bruce Greenwood and the rest of the cast deliver stunning performances too, this is acting at it's best. Flight is hands down of the best movies of 2013 already, it's just a shame Washington didn't get an Oscar for such a gritty and spectacular performance. Review: Great movie - Fantastic movie, highly recommend

Are you intelligent or mindless?
How can a movie initiate such a diverse and polarised range of opinions as this feedback suggests? Clearly it is not the movie itself that is responsible, as that is a constant, so it must be about the diversity of thinking styles and/or capability of the viewer. In terms of genre, this movie has two distinct styles or elements. It starts as an action movie and ends as a drama - a study of the human condition and psychology. Only if you appreciate and understand both elements, will you enjoy this film. I believe, and most seem to agree, that this is a very well made action movie. Most of us enjoy the thrill of danger and this movie succeeds in suspending reality for a good number of minutes in a completely involving struggle to keep the aircraft in the air. This part of the movie engages our primal instincts and demands little of our intellect. The rest of the movie is primarily about relationships and the damage caused to them by addiction. It is also about a personal battle with alcohol and drug addiction and the psychology of that. This part demands of the viewer a modicum of empathy, mental creativity and the ability to think. The possession of a well-defined value set might also be an asset here. I suspect these are elements of intelligence. If you lack it, you may find yourself sleeping through the most impactful scenes. So, make a judgement (if you are able) as to whether you are reasonably clever or not, and you will be able to work out whether or not this is a movie for you. As to the 4 stars I give it, 1 is dropped because, for me, the conclusion of the film was not completely convincing. In my experience, honesty follows sobriety, it doesn't precede it.

Enough Intrigue and Relationship to make it Interesting- OK Movie Nothing Special
Great Acting, Excellent Photography and Direction. If you are into drug fuelled alcohol injected suspense as a style movies, then this is one for you. It kept my attention and I enjoyed it.

Excellent Drama
I don't want to take to plot away, so I keep it general: For an American movie, this is actually rather good. I like the almost "theatre" style production, as the film has a fair few scenes of surprisingly well-rehearsed dialogues. The inclusion of meaningful silences gives it much added value (rare these days with all those "action packed" overly noisy productions). I like the props (cigarettes, alcohol etc). Again, for a US-American film they correspond with - what one would expect from a - realistic setting. The CGI (airport scene and crash) is reasonably realistic and not bad at all: It looks matter of fact, which is good. All too oftern, US films pander on about either family values, America saves the world or save the President etc. This film, however, has a more interesting setting, that of an airline with corrupt solicitors, attempting to conceal the truth after a crash of an aeroplance, whose dodgy pilot - eventually - owns up to the bitter truth. A very admirable performance by Denzel Washington. If you liked "Armchair Theatre" (a British drama broadcast from the mid 1950's to 1970's), you may well like this film, 'Flight'. I enjoyed it immensely.

Good story
This film contains simulated drug taking scenes which is not my scene, and adult content which might not be suitable for younger viewers. The flying sequence was a bit over the top for me. That said its a good story about an airline pilot that has a drink and drugs problem. Flying a passenger airliner he takes off in very rough weather pushing the aircraft to its limits the co pilot tells him he is over speeding but the pilot remains calm taking the aircraft now heavily buffeted by high winds into calmer skies, all is well until the aircraft suffers a catastrophic flight control failure. the captain rolls the aircraft upside down to keep level flight, then rolls it the right way up to crash land in a field saving the lives of most on board. Haled as a hero he eventually ends up in prison for being drunk in charge of a commercial airliner.

All the comments about nudity are silly. It's just a scene to set the tone for the reckless lifestyle the pilot is living. Besides, Nadine Velazquez is quite beautiful in that scene. There are so many, but here are a few of my favorite scenes: The lead up to the crash. "We're gonna roll it." Washington and Brian Geraghty were brilliant in that. Washington for his cool control and Geraghty for his aghast yet still maintaining professionalism and executing commands. Harling Mays enters the hospital ward. Classic modern day pusher. Bling, blending in. Seeing Goodman with Washington brought back memories of "Fallen." You hate that cocaine is what makes them "buddies" in Flight, yet there is something about their relationship that also feels good. You know they have each others back. The hospital stairway scene with Washington, Kelly Reilly and James Badge Dale were great in that unusual scene. Dale philosophizing as a dying man was really thought provoking. His insight into why they had "accidentally" converged in that stairwell proved to be key to the rest of what happened in the move. Washington pays unexpected visit to his ex wife's home. Great scene showing how a drunk no longer processes decorum properly. Washington thinks he is being a great dad in that scene, but has actually brought terror into that home. I almost felt sorry for Washington in that scene. I knew he was lost when I saw it. Of course, like a good alcoholic, seconds later he was giving a sentimental statement to the press that indeed garnered sympathy. All the scenes with Kelly Reilly. Great actress. The British actresses Georgia peach accent was awesome. The real fun was racking my brain trying to figure out who the heck she was. I nearly kicked over the table when "Caroline Bingley" popped into my brain. Yeah, she plays a fairly raunchy character in the beginning, but there is still something pure about her and that plays out well in the final scenes. Washington finds the stash of booze in the adjoining hotel suite. Like a lot of viewers, I really prayed on that one hoping he wouldn't mess up the effort at staying sober. The long focus on that lone tiny bottle of destruction and then his hand swooping in to grab it was great cinema. Washington with Reilly outside her new job. Really a nice, hopeful, scene, but when she mentions the AA meeting, you know things are about to go downhill. The hearing scene with "Miss Block." All the great men sitting there waiting for Washington to put them back in secure positions. The press waiting to confirm him a bona fide "hero" but his love and respect for all of the women in the movie, especially Trina, Nicole and Margaret, overcomes him and he decides it's "now or never." Again, I was left a bit dismayed thinking about all the effort that had gone into patching things up for him, but the overriding thought was that him taking himself out of the sky with lives in his hands at the controls of jet airplanes was the right thing to do, despite the appearance that that is not why he did it. Overall, a 5 star movie for me because it was just so very different than any movie I've ever seen. Very entertaining and thought provoking.

- ....." Sind wir schon Mal zusammen geflogen? " - " Ich glaube nicht......." . FLIGHT: Spannend, traurig, ergreifend. Alles das also, was ein guter Film braucht. " - " Wieso, Sir? " - " Weil ich Drei getrunken hab`............! " Lauflänge: 132.52 Minuten ( mit Abspann ) ! Extras: - Making of= 10.56 Minuten! Q & A= 13.44 Minuten! - Anatomie eines Flugzeugabsturzes= 7.25 Minuten! - Entstehung von " Flight "= 10 Minuten! - Trailer!
