Toasts well, except I get burnt lower corners on loaf bread slices even when set below midway of the dial. Then epiphany, I turned the slices top down and perfect toast. Haven't tried bagels yet but have done two slices of loaf bread together which leaves the inner layers soft for my ham and cheese or club sandwiches. The stop button works well. Would be 5 stars but for burnt corners.
