It is different and well imagined. The characters are diverse and interesting, the premise is, if not original, different to any other interpretation I’ve come across. All in all an engrossing original story. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Storyline spoiled by change in pace *by F***5 on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 April 2024* I enjoyed reading this trilogy and the trials and tribulations of people left on another planet and deserted by their forebears. However I got to 71% of this and had to stop. Not only had it become tedious, but it became obvious that there was a change in feelings of the protagonists, and where you, or I at least, was expecting a nice outcome with certain characters getting together, it became obvious that everything was twisting away from the positive outcomes and that one (don't want to add spoilers here) who rejected someone they did not want to end up with just because they did not feel that way about them and did not want to settle with them as it was their only option, seemed to be turning back to them. And the one who really loved them was also turning away to someone else. It was such a disappointment that I just couldn't make myself read any more. I have tried! But I lost interest after that as the outcome of the story no longer seemed to matter. If each person was going back to their old life having learned nothing from their journey, or rejecting others as they liked their new place more, the story became bitter. I was pleased the stories were so long, many e-books are far too short and disappointing, but the twisting path became too much for me. The animals, people, clans and the environment were detailed and fascinating, not a place I would want to live in certainly, no matter what part of the planet they lived in they never seemed to wash or clean their teeth, made me feel grubby throughout. Enjoyable, but a bit of a let down near the end. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Satisfying ending to a great trilogy *by R***I on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 April 2022* I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. I liked the book enough to buy a copy and the audible as well.The beginning is the end of book two. An epic climax continues with Eular's accusations. Will Yaz survive? The Ice, the Greenlands, the Convent and Abbess Claw are part of the canvas an outstanding ending gets painted upon.This writing is among Marks's best. To me, book 2 was the Empire strikes back of the trilogy. It set the foundations the story could build skyscrapers upon in book 3. Politics and lore grow in depth and flavour. In the end, I was impressed. I'm simultaneously sad the story is over yet happy at the ending.I highly recommend this book.
