Roy Cross created many of the distinctive paintings which adorned the famous Airfix model kits that every keen aviation enthusiast will remember with affection. This book is a collection of some of Roy's best sketches, paintings and cut-away drawings. They are gathered together in a logical chronological sequence that will offer the reader a visual history of aviation from WWII to the latter part of the last century. This is a BIG book
...and therefore well worth the money. Roy Cross's work is known to many through his work on Airfix box covers. His talent as an illustrator shines through with the evocative and near photo realistic works represented throughout the book. It also features some of his work for publications including Flight and Aviation Week and a number of one off commissions for manufacturers including the Hawker Aircraft Company. It would be nice to see another volume of work by Roy or some of the other artists involved. After all there were an awful lot of Airfix models over the years....I would certainly buy something similar especially if it covered in more depth the rapid advances in jet aircraft from 1950 through to 1990. A really nice book to own.

Superb
What else can I say this book is absolutely superb, the pictures take me back to my childhood days when every week all of my pocket money was spent on Airfix models. A trip down memory lane and worth every penny, I cannot recommend it highly enough.

a gallery of superb art
The box art on Airfix models was a major attraction when I was spending pocket money in the 1970's. This book is full of beautiful images and evokes a real trip down memory lane for me.

Fabulous examples of a true aviation artist
Even if you do not read the text, this book is crammed with wonderful examples of Roy Cross' work and is a joy to pick up again and again. Not a small book (about A4 square), it is a keeper.

A splendid collection of Airfix box top art plus many extra images
A splendid collection of the aviation art of Roy Cross, who for ten years created the box top artwork for Airfix, the UK company that set the standard for diversity in plastic model kits. This volume contains at least 120 images, most of which are box top illustrations. For a life-long model builder with very fond memories of Airfix kits, this book is a delightful excursion through forty years of fun. Highly recommended! Paul Gaertner
