This DAC is pretty good. I tried it through my Logitech Z906 Sub amp and compared it to the onboard sound on my mainboard and Sound blaster AE-7 sound card through My creative desktop speakers. On the whole it was pretty good, way better than the Realtek on board sound. It didn't however match up to the AE-7 but that's a £200 sound card. I don't use headphones on my PC but I imagine the results would be much closer with this DAC and my AE-7. I have an Ayima T9 pro amp and some monitors I'm thinking of trying out on my desktop and this will be great to add to that set up. At around £50 this is well worth a try if you're thinking of upgrading form onboard sound with your PC or laptop.

This tiny, sturdy, no-nonsense DAC does exactly what you need: clean, decent sound with no external power and zero fuss. Build quality is solid, portability is excellent, and setup is instant. It won’t rival high-end gear, but for a simple, reliable upgrade over built-in audio, it’s a compact winner.

Purchased an all analog amp. and needed something to stream my music without using AVR. Read a bunch of reviews on different DACS and those kind of things. Decided to buy an FX03 since after reading all the reviews I have figured this is what I need. Pure and simple and a lot of reviewers liked the sound of it. This time I wanted something with warmer sound and this DAC is what many described as such. Having a top of the line Onkyo receiver I do have plenty of clean, neutral sound. Wanted something else…. Hooked this little guy to my MacBook and voila. Instant karma. Set up multiple outputs in MIDI and we rock from both HDMII and FX03. Use what one feels like. Sounds just as warm as I was expecting it to from the reviews done by people I judged to like the sound I wanted this time. Everything is present and accurate. Clean warm sound. Channel separation is superb. Nice open soundstage and enough bass presence. No need for subwoofer. I haven’t noticed any unwanted noise or anomalies in sound. Sound is very personal thing but there are those of us liking the same sound. And then there are our moods or even different musical styles so we can enjoy our different preferences by the way we feel like. For this price range I am more than happy with its performance. I thought initially of buying Wiim but they have removed AirPlay from all of their existing and future devices (I consider that nasty for those who bought units in the past. They should grandfather whatever they have payed for. And with this hooked up to my MacBook I can still use AirPlay from other devices and will be able to use it for years to come. One think I like about FX03 is there are no updates to ruin it.) I don’t need any extra functionality so those looking for that please look elsewhere. Since I use MacBook for all of my streaming needs I already have vast functionality there. And bottom line it’s just intended for listening to the music, only in stereo. It’s tucked in the back of my separates never to be seen so I don’t care about its looks or too bright LEDs or whatever someone else is bothered with. Does an excellent job for me. I hope I have given enough info to those with similar ideas of sound and use of FX03 and still didn’t buy it. To me it’s worth it.
