One of the selling points of this translator is that it works offline. Whenever I am traveling I dont want to deal with poor internet connection or having to constantly sync to anything. I want to be free from any telecommunication. So this being offline was a huge perk. HOWEVER... you will need an internet connection if you want to use any language that isn't pre-loaded. For my device that basically means "out of the box" it can translate Chinese to English but nothing else. I was required to get on the internet to download Vietnamese. However, once downloaded, I didn't need to go back online. So something to consider.For my testing, I looked at Vietnamese language. I will say it is above average overall. It will for sure get you through a market and help you communicate very basic things. Once you try to have full conversations or convey complicated thoughts or ideas, this translator starts to make many errors or gets lost altogether. So I would recommend you stick with basic talking points like "How much?", "Good to meet you", "Are you cold?", "yes, I like that", etc. Avoid trying too much like "How much are those two dragon fruit to the left of that basket?", "It is so very nice to meet you", "I know the house temperature is a bit cooler, would you like a blanket?", "Dinner was lovely, I really enjoyed it."Whenever I tried to say too much, the device just starting making too many errors and the native speakers would be confused on what I was trying to communicate. However, if I kept it simple and basic, we got along just fine.You also will not be able to have a normal conversation cadence. You both will need to take your time to communicate. There is a natural awkwardness when using a device to translate. there's a lot of pausing, waiting, listening, thinking, then responding. So, take your time. Likewise, this will not help you translate a conversation going on in front of you. For the same reasons as before, native speakers will talk over each other, have a faster cadence, and ultimately conveying more complicated thoughts. Whenever I tried, the device had no idea what was being said.All in all, this is no substitute for a proper native translator. However, I see this as a great tool to talk with your in-laws, use to help travel without a translator, or to have an afternoon in the local market as a tourist.

I talk about two positive things. First, is about the customer service. The first translator I received didn’t work, so, I wrote to the customer service. They replied immediately and send me a new device in two days. The service was fast and efficient!And the translator works amazing. You can’t have lengthy conversations with this but it’s not the purpose of this translator. I think it’s intended more for short translations during shopping, in a taxi, or ordering at a restaurant. It translates everything word-by-word immediately after you finish speaking. I can see myself using this device in all my travels. I tried several languages, and the translations were accurate. I can’t comment on the battery life yet. It’s very small and easy to carry with you during travels. The screen is bright enough to see comfotably during daylight.
