It worked
After seeing many different reviews I was skeptical but needed to try this method and medium size due to a large rat. I tried putting down rat bait pebbles of ratx tomcom mixed it with peanut butter and all this rat did was lick off the peanut butter and leave the rat bait intact never digesting it. I left the door open and waited for an hour and it never went outside. So I said let’s give thisa try didn’t have anything to lose as I knew the baits were never going to work it was too smart. With this cage it was pretty durable not too flimsy. Easy to setup and The mechanism of the gate coming down to close and capture the rat was amazing. I put it out for 2 hours max. First try I placed peanut butter on the tray it has setup inside. My mistake was placing it on a piece of foil because the rat went inside without activating the tray and literally grabbed the foil and slid it off and away it went to have its food. I know this because I had installed a camera to watch it. It’s sniffed around outside a few time because it smelled the peanut butter was curious and went inside with in. When I seen it grab the foil of peanut butter and walk out the cage with such Waze and then going back 3 more times I said I need to outsmart you. 2nd try I placed just a small amount of peanut butter directly onto the tray it has. it went in, started licking the peanut butter on the side of the tray and then it happened! He triggered the tray and snap! The cage door came down. It has this slide metal piece when the tray snaps closed that metal piece will come down to lock it in place. For me, I was watching on the camera the entire time. As soon as I heard the snap of the lid I ran to grab it because if it’s size it did try to throw itself against the closed lid and thrashed inside but I was ready and waiting. In all I used this for 2 hours and caught it!! If you have a camera that you can add to the area and watch and see what it does you can outsmart it lol this one was smart and knew! but I highly recommend. It was worth every penny and the quality was great and most importantly it did the job! Should’ve purchased this sooner and not waste money on pellets.

Works even on smart rats. Not good if its a squirrel.
I bought it to get some Chipmunks but came home to a Norway rat. I had no idea there were rats in the neighborhood. Apparently they can chew through a lot of things but he did not chew his way out so I know it is well made. The way that it locks shut is well done because rats are also very smart and he did not escape. While I think the mechanism to drop the door could be a little bit more sensitive, it is effective. I highly recommend for small rodents maybe up to a squirrel. Much better price point than the brand name and does a great job. Highly recommend and great value. Very easy to set and I will be buying more.20-day check-in: I have now caught my second victim which was not a chipmunk that I intended or the surprise of another rat. This time it was a squirrel and he mangled the bar which makes the Trap unusable unless I can bend it back into shape or make shift something else... they probably should have used something stronger or positioned it differently. 😞

The right size trap for a Western Desert Rat (Pack Rat)
The right size trap is important for catching the right sized critter! We had something stealing the Vinca, cutting them off about 1-1/2" above the soil in the pots, it stole all four that were in the pot. My wife put out a live mouse trap and two nights later we had caught one very cute mouse. We relocated it to a nice new home far from any houses. Two nights later, we had our Basil plants stolen! Grrrrrr! We bought a set of two live traps, setting the smaller of the two the following night. Upon checking the trap in the morning we found the bait was gone and the trap had not been activated. The next night we set the trap once again and I put out a trail cam, as well! In the morning the bait was gone and the trap had not been tripped, but I did have video of the culprit! A very sly, Western Desert Rat, the smallest member of the Pack Rats that we have living in the high desert Northern Nevada. After some weight testing to trip the 7" x 7" x 24" trap we were using, I decided I needed a smaller trap and ordered the Kensizer Humane Rat Trap! A couple of nights later we captured the little guy and relocated it to a nice new home in the desert, far from our house. The Kensizer Humane Rat Trap works great for Pack Rats, which can be very destructive, especially if they get into a vehicle and start stealing wires and making nests. These traps are simple to set and make it easy to release the critters they catch.

Almost perfect
I bought the medium size trap to capture chipmunks. On the very first try, I baited the trap with a small mixture of peanut butter and some roasted Pepitas seeds (what I had available). Placed the trap on the pavers near a birdbath underneath a small adjoining bush and left it overnight. The next day, at 8am the trap was still untouched, but by 9am, it caught two of the them in one shot. The trap is quite effective and surprised me how well it works. When the trap is sprung, the lid is locked in placed and the critters cannot get out.I did not give it 5 stars because of one flaw. Inside, the trigger plate has sharp edges and the chipmunks managed to cut themselves. It was a bit of blood scattered around, although it did not look to bad. They took off running as fast as they could the moment I released them. I will have to do something about the sharp edges as the purpose of the trap is to released them unharmed.

Great trap!
Cats brought a chipmunk into house and it got away. Tried a squirrel mesh trap. It trapped chipmunk but while watching it scramble around in cage, saw it escape through 1" square holes in trap. Wouldn't have believed it if hadn't personally observed. Bought this much smaller trap and it worked great. Took pesky rodent outside and released. Very nice trap. One recommended improvement would be a flip up handle. You currently carry trap by the end loop. But animal racing around inside makes holding it unstable. Otherwise, super product. Would highly recommend.I also gave our 2 cats a stern talking to, about bringing animals into house, so confident of no repeat of this problem.

Simple, easy, and effective
This trap is very easy to setup. It effectively traps wood rats, and release is simple and safe. We have had a stream of wood rats entering our boiler room. Hopefully, we have eliminated all the holes, but time will tell. Meanwhile, we have trapped one rat per day for several weeks. We drive 10 miles to a trailhead for release. We removed the trap from the boiler room with the last trapped rat, and left the trap on a stone wall while we left for a 4 mile hike. The trap effectively contained and protected the rat. It drove my cats crazy because they could see the rat through the glass door. This trap is the best approach for wood rats. I use a smaller version for mice. The other useful feature is the door can be flipped open, and a dead rat dropped inside for removal. This is very convenient when a cat discovers and kills rodents that have not entered the trap.

Rats
Seems like a good idea as I did not want to kill any animal. The only animal that seems interested are the chipmunks, they are so light that they eat the food, peanut butter and cheese, and just leave. No rats yet, I will try again tonight.

Worked on the very first try!
The last time i had a rodent in my house i used glue traps. Not only messy but i felt bad for the rodent, as they would die a horrible suffocating death. I decided to try this live cage trap, using some assorted nuts and placing the trap by a wall which i believe the guy traveled along. The very next day we had the critter. I released him in a field several miles away. Very easy to setup. I cleaned the trap with a hose and will setup the trap again tonight and leave it for a few days.

Safe, for the animal and your peace of mind
I Love the fact that the small animal can be trapped safely and relocated. The conventional rat and mice traps are absolutely barbaric - the poor little critters just wanna live!

Sorprendente
Fue realmente sorprendente ver cómo en 3 horas ya había capturado al roedor. Solo seguí la recomendación de otro comprador de amarrar cacahuates al fondo de la jaula, y si, en tres horas cumplió su función

Effective!
Good human trap for it's price. Place a heavy object on cage ( in a way that does not stop it operating) as our first Asian house mouse managed to get out after the trap being triggered. The dog may have had some role in that but I am uncertain.

My first ever review of a product on amazon but I’m still shocked how well this worked. We put it and 20min later the mouse was caught!!!
