Was sceptical about getting a Sony as I had a Sony Ericsson once before and it was terrible - no updates and poor support and I never wanted to buy from them again. Did a bit of research for best compact size phones and this was always in the top 5 and deservedly so after having used it for a few months now. The 5" + phones are too big for me so size wise this is perfect. Same size as a S2 galaxy but a little heavier. Build is nice with a nice glass screen though the back is feels a little bit like flimsy plastic but not too bad. Operates beautifully - the major sellers for me was CPU and battery life and it hasn't disappointed in that regard. I can get a good day and a half out of it of medium use - intensive use would be a full day. CPU is powerful and the phone is very quick. I haven't tried any games from the app store on there yet so cant comment on graphics and game play. Camera is a beautiful 20.7 megapixel and takes a great shot and the screen is stunning just generally and for watching HD videos. The touch screen is very sensitive so you have to be careful of this as it can be annoying making its own moves as it swings around in your pocket so I am yet to find a way to combat this. All in all very happy with this phone, I wanted something that would last me a while, was powerful but had good battery and was a enjoyable to use and I am very confident I have all of this and more in this phone Review: Excellent alternative to better-known but inferior competitors - I bought this to replace an ailing Samsung Galaxy S3 which had stopped working smoothly despite factory resets. After hours of research I decided that the Z1 Compact was the best blend of power, size and price. It's been worth every penny so far, 2 months after I bought it. First, the build - very high quality indeed. The glass front and back feels classy and the phone has a solid feel to it. The port covers are well anchored and it'd take a real pull to get them off. The lock button (right hand side) is in a convenient place, and the dedicated camera button is useful, although I tend to access the camera from the lock button on screen. I keep the phone in a Terrapin case which does the job nicely, although it's no Otterbox. My only gripe is that the volume buttons are too close to the Lock button, especially when it's in a case and I'm a user with thick fingers! The 720p screen is very good and easy to see even in bright light. Sony harp on about Bravia technology but the fact is, whatever it is works very well, with good definition and contrast. Sound from the speaker at the bottom of the phone is very good, but not as good as phones with speakers on the front panel like the HTC One M8. Finally, the magnetic charging point is very good - the phone serves as an excellent bedside clock if you download a suitable app and the magnetic dock saves having to undo the USB port cover every time you charge it. Software is obviously very good - standard Android features, with Sony's own software in places. The Walkman music player is good once you turn off the Sony streaming service - sound quality is excellent through headphones - and the camera is generally very good indeed. The whole phone functions quickly and with no lag for any of my usual apps, and plays games very well. Battery life - ah, this is easily the big selling point. Leave everything in default setting with moderate use and you'll easily get a day's use - this thing puts the Samsungs to shame. BUT THEN - activate the power saving software and it does wonders. The Stamina feature in particular is superb - it shuts down data connections when the phone's on standby (i.e. locked with the screen off). This has a huge effect - I used it all day (light/moderate use), forgot to charge it over night, but still had 54% battery to start on the next morning. It then lasted the whole of that day, with 25% still remaining when I went to bed. I love the battery life on this thing - never had it so good since my Nokia 3210! All in all, it's hard not to recommend this phone. Now it's been succeeded by the Z3 Compact, so I doubt you'll be able to buy it for much longer - but I know I'll be sticking with this series of phones in the future.

Great phone but VERY fragile
This is fantastic, but the bluetooth is broken and Sony refuse to acknowledge that there is a problem. I can't connect to my Scala Rider headset, or my car stereo.... 4 other phones from HTC, Samsung and Motorola and Nokia have all worked fine, but not this one..... very disappointing.... EDIT: Scratch that. I managed to make it work with my car stereo in the end, but the bluetooth is still a bit off. I bought an Xperie Z2 tablet and it won't connect to that with Xperia Link, it does pair with it manually though. There is still something wrong with the bluetooth, it seems to need turning on and off again all the time to make connections, but I can't get too upset about that. The rest of the phone is great though; screen is super, clear and bright; network signal is great, 4G is really fast; battery life is fantastic, normally 30-40% left after a standard days use (my Moto G was out of battery every day). The only other issue is that the speaker isn't very loud on speaker phone, but that is hardly the end of the world. UPDATE: 2 screens later and I'm giving up on this thing. It seems to be exceptionally fragile. The slightest little bump seems to crack the screen and then it doesn't work any more. Very frustrating. The first time it broke in my pocket, I think it overheated! After that it just doesn't seem to have been the same, I've had 2 new screens on it from Sony now and I'm not going to bother with a 3rd. This time it fell off the loo cistern onto a plastic tub about 2 feet below the level it was at, result slight crack through the screen and no response whatsoever. I've had lots of phones that can handle life better than this. I've only ever broken one screen before and that was dropping it over 6' onto stone....
